AOL is rolling out some big enhancements to its search functionality. Its part of an overall strategy of taking down the gates and letting the riffraff in so that the company might become a portal power player, competing with the likes of Google, Yahoo!, MSN and others.
The features won’t be visible until next week, but Search Engine Watch has a nice features run-down here. We tried out the ‘Snapshots’ functionality, bundles of editorially programmed content that sit above search results (think Ask Jeeves’ Smart Search) and found it to be pretty cool.
