Look up the definition of “nerd” on Wikipedia, and chances are good one of them wrote it.
We’re talking about the hard-core Wikipedians, those who spend upwards of 4 hours a day writing articles, perfecting existing entries, or doing general housekeeping duty on the 1.3+ million entries site.
Wired News profiles some of the site’s most dedicated contributors and takes a look at why they do what they do here.
We like this quote from Stacey Greenstein, who made over 1800 edits this past month on subjects ranging from cephalopods to New York City subways: “I care a great deal about … Wikipedia. The concept of ‘freedom to do as we please’ has finally begun its maturation to ‘responsible to do what we need.”
