What can clean wicker furniture and kill poison ivy, yet’s still safe enough to sprinkle on your baked potato? It’s salt, the low-rent gourmet’s favorite spice and the subject of a pseudo-scientific taste test today on Slate.
The author and a fearless group of 8 testers tried out 9 different kinds of the white sprinkly stuff, ultimately placing Maldon’s Crystal Salt at the top of the heap.
Being the salt fanatic afficiando that I am, I decide to hit Google for a little more research. A search on the keyword “salt” showed the mother-of-all salt companies, the brand synonymous with salt, Morton’s, ranking in a rather mediocre position just below the fold, right under the Salt Lake Tribune. Might be time to spice up the SEO, guys.
We-buy-every-term-that-isn’t-nailed-down eBay shows ads linking to an assortment of kitschy salt and pepper shakers, while the SaltInstitute.org (the top ranking result) has everything you ever wanted to know about salt (if you can stand the 1996 graphic design).
Bon appetit!
