It looks like Google’s got plans to bring integrate AdSense advertising into RSS feeds. It’s undergoing a test drive over on LonghornBlogs.com, where there’s a post today explaining (well, sort of) what’s going on.
Here’s what little we know, courtesy Microsoft Developer Robert McLaws:
- It’s a pilot program for a new AdSense product Google is testing. LonghornBlogs is the only site running right now.
- No word on how the ads are put in the feeds, but it’s not JavaScript.
- ME! ME! I want in! A wider public beta could potentially roll out in the next few weeks.
This is big win for Google, on top of an already stellar past few weeks. Though we must admit - the choice of a Microsoft blog for the beta is downright quirky. In addition to quirky, this move is also long overdue, just yesterday Dana Blankenhorn was calling out Google for being behind the pack on RSS:
“Despite all its cash and technical know-how Google has yet to exploit it. We don’t have a blog search tool, to this day, with the simplicity of Google, or even Google News, and I ask, again, why not?”
What a difference a day makes.
