Yesterday marked the official beta release of BrilliantShopper.com, the company started by 4 former Jeeves employees aimed at bringing together the best features of a vertical search engine and comparison shopping portal. This site relies almost exclusively on the user interface to organize and present related data, with a regular search database handling the filtering process. Says founder and CEO Phillip Lan:

“Brilliant Shopper is pioneering the delivery of merchant-driven results, comparison shopping, reviews and promotional offers in a user interface that appeals to the desires of consumers, and offers a powerful new user experience.”

Right now it’s only available in IE, other browsers are planned for the final release, scheduled for Q3 2005.

Looks like they’ve still got some kinks to work out - a search on the keyword “mother’s day” returned motherboards as the top three results. I don’t know about you guys, but mine would slap me upside the head if one of these showed up outside her door on May 8th.
