Americans: Food GOOD. Oil companies: BAD

Consumers love Google, but they love their Piggly Wiggly more. A recent survey by Harris Interactive asked a cross-section of US adults which industries are doing a good job on customer service, and which ones are falling short.

Supermarkets, packaged food companies, and computer hardware manufacturers took the top three positions, with health insurance, tobacco, and oil companies occupying the bottom three.

Search came in a respectable seventh, though when #5 and #6 are airlines and hospitals (respectively), the honor becomes a little less distinctive.

It’s kind of a weird idea for a survey, comparing and ranking such diverse industries seems pretty apples to oranges, but what emerges is a pretty accurate zeitgeist of the average American mindset. We love food, we love to sit in front of the computer, and we hate paying a lot for our gas and cigarettes.
