The name of the game is innovation, and Google has just invited DodgeBall.com to join its team. The NY-based mobile social networking site started by 2 students from NYU allows users to alert their friends via text if they’re going to be at a particular bar or hang-out. They can also get alerts if friends of friends are going to be in the vicinity. A “crush” feature allows users to hook up with other Dodgeball users.

It’ll be interesting to see what revenue model emerges out of all this. First Dodgeball will have to make its local listings more accurate/robust and build out its feature set. As PC4media says, the ad targeting capabilities that the mobile format enables could be pretty cool if its goes beyond the traditional geographic focus and takes into account factors such as weather, and time. If it’s raining, suggest a video rental. If it’s 3 a.m. and you’re leaving a bar with a boozy hankering for pizza, get pointed to the nearest place. If you’re Macaulay Culkin, and want your friends to meet up with you and Michael, try texting them this Google map of Neverland Ranch.
