Last week DontClick. It was one of the blogosphere’s hottest links, and SearchViews was no exception.
The CoFactors blog has a great write-up called “Don’t Retire That Two-Button Mouse Just Yet” that puts our discomfort with this new notion into less caveman-like terms than ‘Click GOOD. No click BAAAADDD’.
Author Franklin argues against the notion that the time between clicks is ‘dead space’, saying some pretty important stuff is going down between clicks:
“…the between-click time isn’t dead. Something may not be happening at the interface level, but it usually is for the user. Most people move the mouse around the screen to explore the interface - even though simple motion usually doesn’t do anything. And that’s the point. Most people are in fact doing something quite important between clicks. They are either learning, or they are pausing. And not having the interface change during that time is usually important to them…”
It kinda reminds us of those people who can’t read without moving their lips or moving their finger along the page. Are they the same ones who use their mouse to scroll over the words as they read?
