Amazon Turning Ten

Amazon turns 10 years old on July 16th and we’re wondering what to get it for its birthday. Should we add to the one million pre-orders for the new Harry Potter or go whole hog and shell out for the 1,082 volume Classics Collection costing a cool $7,989.99 - a small price to pay considering it’ll keep your nose buried for the next 20 years at the rate of one book a week.

Writer Carol Tice has a lengthy-but-worth-it article reflecting on the firm’s 10 year anniversary titled Amazon at 10: Ten vital questions for the next decade. The piece starts with speculation as to whether or not Founder Jeff Bezos will stay in the picture.

It goes on to wonder how Amazon will maintain its positioning as one of the top eCommerce brands in the face of threats such as WalMart.com, which realized a traffic increase of 42% last December compared to Amazon’s 14%.

Then there’s the anything but playful toy issue (a troubled partnership with Toy ‘R Us) and whether or not it’ll be able to make money off of A9.

The Internet Retailer wonders whether Amazon is preparing for a big play in liquidations.
