If you paid attention in high school English class, chances are its paying off in your site’s ranking. A recent study makes the bold assertion that traditional SEO tactics such as link text, frames, and JavaScript aren’t as important as the one thing the majority of Google top-rankers have in common: good writing.
Author Joel Walsh took a look at Google’s top five pages for the five most searched keywords, as indicated by WordTracker on June 27, 2005.
Here’s what the top sites all had in common :
- Frequent Updates: At least once every few weeks, most more than once a week
- Great Spelling & Grammar: No more than 3 errors for either per page
- Petite Paragraphs: No more than 4 sentences. Few big chunks of text
- Short sentences: 10 words or fewer. Medium and long sentences are scattered throughout the text
- Relevancy Matters: Text should contain lots of terms related to the keyword as well as stem variations (cat, cats, etc.)
These are all strong, if not fairly basic recommendations. Read the rest here.
