Just over a month ago we told you about the closed beta and blog launch of MSN Shopping.
This weekend the beta became open to the public as MSN Shopping Beta launched, a new addition to the MSN search family and direct competitor to Shopping.com, Froogle, Yahoo Shopping and others.
Brian Smith of ComparisonEngines.com did an interview with Chris Jolley, Group Programming Manager of MSN Shopping about the launch. Here’s a quick quote:
“We’ve put a ton of investment into building a better shopping comparison tool…Microsoft has always been good at building great technology. A great selection without a good way to find a product is bad. A great tool with no selection doesn’t help either. We’ve coupled technology with a broad selection of products and merchants.”
Jolley also goes on to point out three things that are going to give MSN Shopping an edge on the competition:
- Merchant relationships and technologies leveraged from MSN’s partnership with PriceGrabber
- Robust search refinements - users can search by price, product details, popularity, ratings, etc.
- A focus on merchandising that puts key areas of the site such as the Gift Center in the spotlight.
