Akamai Net Usage Index Says Jacko Still Tops

It won’t make you jump out of your seat or anything, but the Net Usage Index by Akamai is kinda cool.

The online content and business process provider recently launched the site which tracks metrics such as global news consumption, site visitors per minute and top media events by traffic, allowing browsers to get a feel for which world events are driving users to online news destinations.

That stats are a little wonky - the Michael Jackson verdict is still at the top of the heap for media events. It makes sense considering the time frame measured is from mid-June onward, but it seems like something more current would be a little more relevant/useful.

If you think we’re being too hard on old Akamai, check out this post on Gawker which uses the word “boring” two times over.

An article in the Boston Globe has more on how the tracker came to be.
