More revenue, less dependence on Google, and the possible death of a butler.

The Ask Jeeves announcement that the company will be making its sponsored listings available to all presents a number of possibilities and right now its anyone’s guess as to which will come to fruition.

The company today announced the general availability of Ask Jeeves Sponsored Listings, a new search advertising product that replaces the company’s Premier Listings product with an open-auction system that allows advertisers to more easily manage and optimize their campaigns.

Key advertiser benefits include premium placement on Ask Jeeves and its syndication network, low minimum spend, and better visibility and reporting.

Loren Baker of SearchEngineJournal.com wonders if the program’s URL “sponsoredlistings.ask.com” is any indication of the company’s plans to drop the butler (aka Jeeves) from their brand name, and we agree that it’s a likely possibility.

More on the Ask Jeeves “name game” here.
