Google anticipated a legal scuffle when it hired on Kai-Fu Lee, the former VP of Microsoft’s Interactive Services Division who jumped ship a few weeks ago to join Google.
Documents recovered from the Recycle Bin on Lee’s computer state that should a non-compete clause bar Lee from active duty at Google, the search firm would place him on a paid leave of absence or assign him a consulting gig for up to a year.
Why an expert in a heady field like speech recognition technology hasn’t grasped a concept as simple as file deletion is beyond the scope of the imagination, though maybe Lee thinks more with his heart than his head, as evidenced by this personal letter to family and friends in which he explains his reasons for breaking up with Bill Gates.
