Apple Computer has been prepping reporters for a major announcement on Wednesday of next week. A number of invitations have been sent for a “special event” being held on September 7th in San Francisco.
The invite copy reads:
“1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again.”
So what will it be? There’s a lot of speculation circulating but an iTunes phone seems to be the popular consensus.
Analyst Roger Entner says:
“Industry sources tell me that there will be a joint announcement between Motorola, Apple and Cingular announcing the launch of a branded Cingular offer with iTunes.”
Conspiracy theorists on MacShrine.com point out a number of hidden reference to mobile-phone functionality, adding fueling to the iTunes phone fire.
Other analysts are warning Apple fans not to get too comfortable with their pet theories on what the new product will be. Jupiter analyst Michael Gartenberg remarks:
“When it comes to Apple announcements, expectations are often set unrealistically by Apple enthusiasts. But Apple has been known to pull rabbits out of the proverbial hat. It may be a new category of device altogether.”
We don’t know what it is but we’ll be waiting. Check out the discussion in this post on Signal vs. Noise.
