A bunch of geeks wielding blunt objects isn’t the only way Microsoft can kill Google. It can also do what others have been saying it should do all along: buy its customers.
Analysts estimate Google would stand to lose as much as $380 million in ad revenue were AOL to drop its search engine and switch to MSN. Profits would drop by a quarter and share prices would come tumbling down. So it’s little wonder that Google is rumored to be talking to AOL and trying to cut off Microsoft at the pass.
