Paid Search to Dominate By 2010

Paid search revenues are set to surpass display ad revenues by 2010, according to a recent Jupiter Research report that takes a look at the next five years in the US paid search market.
Paid search accounted for 34% of total online ad spending for 2004. By 2009 paid search revenue will become equal to that of display advertising and by 2010 it is expected to take top positioning.
What’s behind the growth? Put simply: competition. The new players in the search engine space are giving the more established engines a run for their money and driving overall spend from advertisers who are coming to appreciate their value.

“Currently, marketers are attempting to handle the expanding campaign size in terms of search engines used. As marketers start to better manage and monitor their campaigns across search engines, they will see the value of increasing the spending to search engines such as MSN and Ask Jeeves.”
