If all the major search engines were to sit down for a game of Trivial Pursuit, who would make it to the winner’s circle first with all their little plastic pie pieces intact?
AP reporter Michael Liedtke asks that question in an article titled Trivia Stumps Smart Search Engines in which he pits Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, Answers.com and MSN against each other as they seek to answer popular trivia questions.
The goal? To see which engine is most adept at providing answers to difficult questions. The result? No one engine is the best, though that could be considered a finding in and of itself as most would automatically assume the winner to be Google.
The article also drives home the point that you can’t always rely on search engines for accurate information, especially when it comes to statistics. A search for the number of people who watched the final episode of M.A.S.H turned up audience numbers anywhere from 105 - 125 million.
