California start-up Truveo yesterday launched the beta of a new search engine that seeks out content based on the visual characteristics of a web page rather the just the text.
According to this story on CNET, Truveo has been crawling the web for video for going on two months and says it has more index content than rivals like Google and Yahoo. It also says its results are more up-to-date.
Truveo co-founder and chief executive Tim Tuttle explains why his site excels:
“Other video search engines look for text within Web pages, but many sites don’t have text associated with video.”
The company will make their money by running ads alongside search results in addition to licensing its listings on other sites.
Truveo’s got a nice, easy-to-use interface and I like the “Recently Viewed” tab. I’ll be keeping an eye on these guys…
