Google Gets Busy with Google Base & Travel Tweak

Anyone who thinks of Q4 as a time to slow down apparently hasn’t heard of Google.

There’s a whole lot going on at the search engine right now, with two new developments making headlines not even mid-way through the week.

The first has to do with Google testing a new subdomain called “base.google.com.” This screenshot shows a database in which you can “add all types of content.” Google will do the hosting and make it available for free. Google Blogoscoped has more as does this post on John Battelle. The implications of this could be huge.

The second development is something that may have been out for a while now, but like John Battelle I didn’t hear of it til just now. Type any [any destination] [any destination] (example “Detroit New York”) in Google and you’ll get back a list of flight options from Expedia, Hotwire and Orbitz along with pre-filled date boxes that you can adjust up or down. Pretty cool, eh?
