Is AOL in Talks with Google & Comcast?

AOL, make up your mind.

First you’re getting cozy with Microsoft, now we hear that you’re going all giddy for Google.

Yesterday word spread throughout the search & tech circles that Google & Comcast are in discusions to buy a minority stake in America Online. Such a deal could pose a substantial competitive threat to Yahoo and Microsoft.

The talks are still in the early stages and centered around how the three firms could tie together AOL’s programming and Google’s search/email services with Comcast’s distribution capabilities (cable, telecommunications, etc.):

Says ABC News:

“The combination would marry Time Warner’s trove of programming and Google’s popular search and e-mail services with Comcast’s high speed Internet portal and experience in cable video distribution and telecommunications.”

Red Herring has some good analysis.

One Response to “Is AOL in Talks with Google & Comcast?”

Could Bill Gates let this opportunity pass him by? He needs the AOL ad space and the opportunity to feed AOL with its search results. If he fails he is condemned to 3rd place in search at best for history.
