Splogbombs Away

A splogbomb may sound like a wacky new toy from Nerf but trust me when I tell you that it’s anything but fun.

Just ask the engineers at Google, who are dealing with a massive “splogbomb” that was created via its Blogger.com service. It’s since been infecting the blogosphere with thousands of fake blogs and posts.

One person who’s none-too-amused is Mark Cuban. He recently wrote a blistering post in which he asked Google to "get its (expletive) together."

Here’s a clip:

"So please Google. Add a challenge system. Dump the flag you tried. It was a nice try, but doesnt get the job done. Its not an imposition to ask a blog poster to confirm their post with a link inside an email, or a word confirmation. It may not eradicate the problem, but it will improve the quality of information available in the blogosphere considerably."

More on splogs in this article on Wikipedia, part of their “spam series”.

On a related note, read how one guy is fighting back, one splog at a time. Not to sound too negative, but good luck with that.
