Google’s not the only company who can outfit a major metropolitan area with Wifi.
A report today out of Wisconsin says a small local company is looking to turn the entire city of Milwaukee into a wireless hotspot.
The company is called Midwest Fiber Networks and it plans to profit from the deal by collecting payments from ISPs. According to this article (short reg req’d) in the Milwaukee Journal, the company will “own, operate and upgrade the network at its own cost” without charging taxpayers “a cent - unless they want to use it.”
So, in other words you have to pay - unlike Google’s system which is free.
The articles closes with a bunch of warnings about the dangers of wireless network. Mainstream media scare tactics like these make it little wonder why Europe is now kicking our butts when it comes to wireless access.
