Yahoo and Gawker Media are teaming up for a syndication deal that will integrate posts from five of the network’s most popular blogs (Gawker, Wonkette, Gizmodo, Defamer and Lifehacker) on Yahoo News.
Other Gawker blogs will eventually be pulled in and terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed.
Says Gawker publisher Nick Denton:
“A group of edgy blog titles might not seem a particularly obvious fit with one of the big Internet companies, but Yahoo!’s developed a measure of geek chic, which makes them the right media partner for Gawker.”
This seems like a smart deal and one that will allow Denton to retain more hands-on control and editorial independence then if he were to go with an option like the Weblogs Inc. deal with AOL.
