Some further updates on the Google Base project we told you about back in late October.
The much-vaunted online database will most likely be leveraged by a Google classifieds service, temporarily going by the moniker “Google Automat”. Analysts say Google has submitted a patent for this service.
The classifieds program allows sellers to create and post classifieds ads which can be accessed via search as well as place on other web sites or incorporated into AdSense ads.
Taking it one step further, Google Automat will also incorporate a mechanism that will automatically allow you to pay for the ad. Says analyst John Zappe”
“We see advertisers - consumers and businesses - opening Google Purchase accounts, which can automatically debit regular banking accounts as the advertising campaign progresses.”
Classifieds writer Peter Zollman says of Google:
“They’re certainly planning for an all-out assault on classified advertising.”
No doubt Google’s getting into the classified game will cause a major shakeup for the market, with eBay and Craigslist directly in the line of fire.
