If Larry & Sergey get any more personal we’re going to have to take out a restraining order. The news today is that Google has filed for a patent on a system that presents organic search results based upon an individual’s user profile.
See the patent application here.
According to this article in Search Engine Journal, your “user profile” will consist of information gathered from previous searches, web surfing behavior, applications such as Google Desktop search and Sidebar along with information that Google says may be “implicitly or explicitly provided by the user.”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but this sounds like “personalized search for everyone” - the only exception is that the general public hasn’t opted into it.
More discussion over on Threadwatch.
Speaking of spooky, Google Blogoscoped points to the story of a Japanese schoolgirl who slowly poisoned her mother and kept a blog about it.
