Summit on Global Internet to Meet Next Week

Even though it can’t be directly processed into fuel for oversized SUVs, the information pipeline more commonly known as the Internet is a ripe battleground for international issues such as free speech, information owernship and human rights.
It’s all expected to play out in a UN summit next week in Tunisia. Here’s what’s on tap:
“The so-called World Summit on the Information Society was originally conceived to address the digital divide - the gap between information haves and have-nots - by raising both consciousness and funds for projects. Instead, it has centered largely around Internet governance: oversight of the main computers that control traffic on the Internet by acting as its master directories so Web browsers and e-mail programs can find other computers.”
