The Domain Game Opens Up

I subscribe to a general biz/tech news feed and as such see a lot of rather dull press releases.

Every once in a while something catches my eye, like this one announcing the launch of a holiday shopping support site from retailer Best Buy.

While the concept is certainly nothing new the domain name is awesome - AskABlueShirt.com.

Speaking of domain names - Master arbiter of the Internet ICANN is talking about lifting restrictions on single letter domain names.

These names were locked up back in 1993 when engineers expressed concerns over the ability of database technology to keep up with the exploding demand for domain names.

Companies like Overstock.com and Yahoo are expected to pay hefty fees for single letter addresses (”o.com” and “y.com”, respectively).
