It’s the holiday season and no doubt a lot of charities are competing for your attention.
Consider Community Voicemail, an organization that provides free voicemail boxes to the homeless and unemployed, solving one of the many Catch-22s that inhibit such individuals from bettering their situation.
The highly successful Seattle-based charity has branched out to 37 cities and 19 states and recently provided assistance to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

I’ve had personal experience with this organization, and I can tell you that the whole system is set up to make it shockingly simple for busy professionals.
Sign-up and scheduling are all done online and the orientation is a quick 45 minute session that takes place 5 times a week in various locales. It’s perfect for the person who wants to volunteer but finds adding one more line item to their schedule a little overwhelming.
