The garage is generally considered a place to park your car and (ahem) unused exercise equipment, not a site of any historical significance.
So why is a one car garage at 367 Addison Lane currently undergoing rennovations in the multi-million dollar range?
Because the 12-by-18 foot space is considered by many to be the birthplace of the Silicon Valley. It’s where David Packard and William Hewlett first set up shop in 1938, working on what would eventually become the foundation of the computing products we use today.
Read about the garage’s rich and winding history as well as the history of other notable Silicon Valley garages (2066 Crist Drive is one) in this Houston Chronicle piece titled A $1.7 Million Garage.
Another fun trip back through time, this Apple II ROM chip autographed by Steve Jobs (dig the 80’s stationery!).
