The gang at Google may be a bunch of billionaires, but they still take the bus.
Google has announced the release of Google Transit, a public transportation planner based on Google Maps.
Google Transit was created to allow users easy access to schedules and routes. Right now the product only covers the city of Portland, though the search engine has designs on expansion.
From the Official Google Blog:
“This first release covers only the Portland, Oregon metro area, but we are working to expand our coverage very soon… We chose to launch with the Portland metro area for a couple of reasons. Tri-Met, Portland’s transit authority, is a technological leader in public transportation. The team at Tri-Met is a group of tremendously passionate people dedicated to serving their community. And Tri-Met has a wealth of data readily available that they were eager to share with us for this project.”
The rest of the entry is here.
