Google has relied on word-of-mouth and viral marketing since the search engine was knee-high to a grasshopper.
Yet this week a number of outlets are reporting that Google is getting into TV commercial game with the sponsorship of select programming on (where else?) PBS.
A short 15 second spot is airing before each episode of NOVA and the program has a page devoted to Google in the Funders section of its site with a “special message” from the search giant:
“At Google we value above all else the curious mind-the driving force behind so many advances in science and technology. For 30 years NOVA on PBS has embodied these values, presenting programming that encourages millions of viewers to ponder new possibilities. We are grateful for, and are proud to support, NOVA’s commitment to scientific exploration, and we look forward to the new discoveries we expect it to inspire.”
Search Engine Watch has more, including details on Google’s other advertising/PR efforts to date.
You can view the video of the Google spot here.
