Topix.net Gets a Makeover That’s More than Skin Deep

News aggregation site Topix.net has announced the rollout of several new user-oriented features today as well as an overhaul to the site’s design.

The news itself is post-worthy enough but as a quick sidebar - our Director of Marketing Anthony Iaffaldano recently spoke with Topix VP of Marketing Chris Tolles at SES Chicago. He’ll be posting notes from that conversation some time in the next week with a more in-depth “5 Questions” interview to follow shortly thereafter.

Anyway, public forums and the ability to comment on news stories are just a few of the “citizen journalism”-style features which Topix hopes will make its site more interactive while driving additional revenue.

From an article in the San Jose Mercury News:

“[Topix Chief Executive] Skrenta believes the site will appeal to users in areas not well-served by mainstream media sources who may be reluctant to start their own blog. Topix isn’t assuming that people will only want to discuss the news they find on Topix…local Topix pages can become hubs for community discussions about whatever is relevant to people.”

More on the story in this post by Steve Rubel.
