Xbox 360 Lawsuit Heats Up

Written By Reprise Media | December 6, 2005 | Share This |

Its users have barely had time to wear butt grooves in the couch and already Microsoft’s new Xbox 360 is facing a class action lawsuit from a group of upset consumers who claim the company knowingly released a product fraught with design flaws.

The suit was initiated by Robert Byers of Chicago, who says that the power supply and CPU of the 360 are prone to overheating, burning out the chips and causing the game console to seize up.

Reps for Microsoft say the company has received a few calls but deny that it’s a widespread issue.

CNET News has more.

“The company has received a few calls” - yeah, right. I’m curious to see just how many calls they have received. If you’ve called Microsoft, tell me about it at http://www.xbox360lawsuit.com.

people make me sick. seriosly, it seems like everyones suing over little things. stop it. mistakes happen

  3. Todd Curl [ December 18th, 2005 at 1:01 pm ]

This is a legitimate problem and lawsuit, I personally stood in line for 8 hours to purchase one, and not longer than 12 hours after first plugging it in did I first start having problems. This is a just action, and I’d love to see this follow through in favor of those that spent upwards from 600 dollars on everything from the first day.

Its true, my xbox 360 broke down last night and I think the overheating of the system caused everything else to fry, now it wont even turn on. I called xbox and was on hold for thirty minutes and when I was complaining to a supervisor, they cut me off. I called back again and all they could do is say sorry in the most sarcastic voice ever. All they could do is repair it, and they give you nothing for your trouble; I waited over-night, spent over seven hundred dollars on the xbox 360 and accessories and all they could do is repair it. Now I have to wait and see how long it takes for them to repair it. They could not even tell me how long it would take. All I want to know now is where do I join on this lawsuit?

My 360 shut off last night after the screen froze and all the pixels were all disoreninted. I cant believe it does power on. just all frozen on the screen and the circle is all red where its supposed to be green.

On Christmas Eve I bought the premium package and 5 games. After no more than 45 minutes of playing a game it just quit working and my remotes were blinking. I called Micrsoft and now I have to send it in to either be replaced or repaired. This really sucks. Where can I sign up for the suit?!?

Same thing happen to me . Great present for the kids.Don’t think so. One ruined christmas here

  8. Gary Wilson [ January 31st, 2006 at 7:22 pm ]

I bought the X-box 360 for Christmas and I played it once. Since than I really don’t play it. But recently I started playing the X-box 360 and I can’t get tough a game of football or a round of golf. They told me that due to me being in the military station oversea that I will have to pay for shipping. The money is no problem, but when you have a product that you knows have problems you should go out of your way to make sure that the problem get taking care of.

guys come on someone made a mitske give them a break.i mean if u all suit then u will never get a fully functioning 360 and microsoft will lose alot of money i mean so wat if u have to wait a little longer maybe it will be a month or 3 months.so wat, they r getting calls like this all over the placeand trying to fix them a fast as the can i bet.wat do u expect them to use magic and fix em all at once.if u suit in my oppion win or lose ur still retarded.

  11. Elvis Patterson [ February 9th, 2006 at 7:52 am ]

I preordered my 360 last july. I got it on nov. 22-05. It froze on me jan 26th of 06. I sent it in and they sent me another console in two days. Unfortunately, it will not get on xbox live. I had no problems getting on live with the first console. this console passes all the tests except the live test. I have called them 4 times in the last week. They basically said that they don’t know what the problem is!! I made them refer the new console to be repaired. Then, twenty minutes after I hung up with them the last time, IT FROZE AGAIN!!!! My games will not load, and it basically erased all of my call of Duty missions that I had beaten. THANKS, MICROSOFT!!!!

  12. Bug [ February 10th, 2006 at 11:28 am ]

I have had absolutely NO problems with my xbox360. I’ve left it on for hours at a time, with 0 over heating. I don’t have a single problem, I love it. I think alot of this is from sony fanboys just trying to give xbox a bad name, b/c its always been better than the PS2 and they know the ps3 won’t be able to compete with 360.

  13. Matt [ February 14th, 2006 at 4:40 pm ]

I had to send my xbox back to be fixed and when it returned it didn’t have any of my accomplishments on my harddrive. What a waste of time i spent on those games.

  14. D.Schwartz [ February 15th, 2006 at 3:21 pm ]

I feel the frustration as well. I spent 17 hours in line the day it came out to purchase the premium system for the perfect present for my 13 year old son. Well as of last week, I’ve returned it for repair 4 times!!!!! Every time I get the repaired one back, it will work maybe a week or so before I start having problems with it. Either all blinking red lights instead of green. System overheats, screen freezes and this past time it wouldn’t even power on. I’ve had enough and my son is so upset about it, he doesn’t want to even play it now.

  15. Karl [ February 22nd, 2006 at 5:10 am ]

I would just like to remind you all of the PS2 launch, and all those DVD drives that failed all over the place. Why no law suit action on them?

I am from New Zealand, and I am still waiting for my xbox 360. the one at the shop is being thrashed by everybody, and I never have seen it freeze or lock up. everybody I have ever known has bought a computer without problems, out of the last three computer I have bought over the past five years, only one had no problems - then get the usual run-around by the computer firm - with much grumbling, and moaning until its sorted. I would just like to point out that for a “specialty” product of this type - it is unreasonable to expect them all to run fine. out of 5 million sold I would project that 2% of these would have problems - which makes it a low percentage but a lot of loud, angry consumers - give them time, and I’m sure you squeaky wheels will get a replacement or refund. doing a class action lawsuit only benifits the lawyers! and no-one else.

  16. joe [ February 27th, 2006 at 7:12 pm ]

ok,listen up i bout my 360,and guess whatmine is fine i was in line the first day it came out and look at me iits fine!i think ur all sony folk who are makin the 360 look bad

  17. james [ February 27th, 2006 at 9:33 pm ]

this is why you never buy a game console the first day or within the first year of its release I tell people this all the time and now look what happens everyone that bought the 360 is having them fry and freeze on them. Can’t wait to see what the PS3 will do. I bet you could fry hamburgers on it when it frys

my broke too and i spent 500 hundred dollars. i will get it replaced then sell it on ebay

  19. Mike [ May 7th, 2006 at 1:42 pm ]

Same problem with me - had the machine less than 2 months, everytime I played GRAW it would lock up after about an hour - eventually the machine wouldn’t even turn on - just the red flashing 3 red quadrants on the power button - indicating a hardware failure. This is the last Microsoft piece of junk that I ever buy.

Microsoft owes me for wasted time , aggravation , and the cost of games purchased!

I have returned this pile of garbage for good.

  23. awfull [ May 29th, 2006 at 3:35 pm ]

This Xbox Is something else, never hadi had so many problems with a device. 5 times i have replaced it. And the trouble just doesnt go away. Some break 1-5 hours into the game others, take about a month or so. But five defective products in a row is way too much.
Makes me wonder if this should have hit the market at all, be it any other product they would have had a recall by now.

I just got the now called “Red blinking ring of death on my Xbox 360. I am very angry with the manufacturer for putting out an untested unreliable piece of hardware. To pay almost $600 for a machine games and controllers and it not work would make anyone angry. This equipment should work right and work for more than 4 months. Please send me information on the class action suit.

I just spoke to a supervisor on the phone at microsoft and told them I wanted my xbox 360 repaired. She told me that their 90 warranty was very generous, hahaha are you kidding? she them became very rude and started giving me an address when I told her I wanted her full name and wanted to sue them. She didn’t even let me speak after that. How do I sign up on this lawsuit?

  31. Alden McMillan [ July 23rd, 2006 at 5:28 pm ]

I have allready went through 3 units. I have reported a complaint with the BBB. I have had all three units overheating and freezing during gameplay. I think that MS is going against its warrenty if you purchessed it like I did you probebly read it. It states that all units that leave the repair plant in Texas will meet all the specifications as a new unit. If this is yrue all of the new units must be defected to.

  32. roughneck0101 [ July 24th, 2006 at 5:51 am ]

I also recieved the 3 red lights of death, I had mine since launch and while my other 4 friends had to send theirs back, I thought I got lucky.
Please send me info on this law suite if possible.

  33. John Sep [ July 24th, 2006 at 1:27 pm ]

I’m in also. I just sent my Xbox 360 out today to be repaired after getting the three red lights– A 90 day warranty on electronics that expensive is rediculous! I have over $1000 in console, games, & accessories! Sounds to me like they knew there was a problem to start with and are using the same business plan that gave us Windows releases that need patches out of the box.

  34. corey [ July 29th, 2006 at 12:18 pm ]

i used to think that people where suing over the littlest things, my mind has changes, i just recently got the 3 red lights of death and it happened on the day my warranty expired. Now it will cost me $129 dollars to repair and that might not be the problem it could be my hardrive or both. There advice pay the 129 and then by a new hardrive for 100 wtf. iv been careful and it still happened

  35. gollyga [ August 1st, 2006 at 12:01 pm ]

Just ad us to the list of screwed-up systems. My husband stood in line 11/22 to get a 360 for our 11 yr old son. Of course it is the only thing he wanted from Santa. We thought we had lucked-up and gotten one of the systems that was problem free. WRONG!!!! 3 days ago it started locking up, scrambling, and some weird icon apearing on the screen. In the 3 days lock ups are getting more frequent. Called Microsoft, and they rold us to go in and check the date, and it had gone back to 11/22, so we put the correct date in and it worked good for I would say 3 hrs. I knew when they had us chg the date that that was not going to fix the problem. Now they are telling us that we have to send it to them and pay $129.00, in my opinion that is BS!!! Just to let everyone know, we have the system sitting on my son’s dresser with nothing around it, so it has all the breathing room it needs. I think anyone out there that one of the systems from the 1st shipment is playing on borrowed time.

  36. Jim [ August 1st, 2006 at 6:21 pm ]

Myself and four of my friends purchased 360’s. One of them just purchased one within 90 days and it crashed. Myself and the others preordered and they have all crashed but one. My 360 and my other friends 360 crashed after the 90 day warranty period. Now myself and my friend have to pay $129.00 to have it fixed. I was just in the game store today 8/1/06 and a young man came in because his 360 began freezing. MS is not reporting the true problem count! Only one of my friends has not had problems yet. Hmm lets figure out the problem percentage with 4 out of 5 having problems!

  37. gamer [ August 3rd, 2006 at 3:11 am ]

My friend had his 360 fry after a week. I thought I was the lucky one since mine has been working since Nov. 22nd. Spoke too soon. I saw a slow death tonight of over a $1000 investment. I also drop $25 for 2000pts. Now they want $129 to repair it. I said, I think I’m going to just keep my $129 and sell all my games, controllers, and accessories(no console included). Seriously, they must have tested this product and knew it was going to break with normal use.

  38. mark myer [ August 5th, 2006 at 5:33 pm ]

I purchased a 360 in Dec. 05. I just recieved the red ring of lights in Aug 06. Funny that a new design of cpu is being produced for the 360 early next year. I wish Microsoft would acknowledge the problem and fix for free. And if there is no problem, why re-design the cpu?

Where do i sign, If everyone joins we have a fighting chance. I bought mine on launch its worked perfect until 2 days ago it froze twice. And now it won’t even get past the 360 logo

  42. Josh [ August 10th, 2006 at 12:24 am ]

Microsoft can go to hell and anyone who is slamming this forum doesn’t have a defective product and pulls money out of there ass

  43. gollyga [ August 10th, 2006 at 1:35 pm ]

Well, it happened!!! The RED RINGS OF DEATH!!! If you read my post on 8/1 my sons system was locking up, and picture scrambling, now the red rings, and it want turn on. Called Microsoft and all they will do is have me send it in for $129.00. The rep actually agreed with me and said that Microsoft rushed to quick to get the system out without checking for glitches. He also made the comment that if I was to purchase the new Playststion3, and new Nintendo that they will have worse problems. Like I told him, having a problem is one thing, but Microsoft is not taking care of their customers, and that is poor way to do business. He also stated that Microsoft was losing alot of money due to these issues, and I told him I hope it was coming out of Bill Gates pocket!!! In addition, I also informed him that I will never purchase another system from Microsoft. I also informed him that I will be pursuing legal action against microsoft. I feel sorry for anyone that purchased one of these systems, because I feel that they are playing on borrowed time, be it days, months, or years the majority of systems are going to fail.

  44. Troy [ August 12th, 2006 at 8:53 pm ]

Microsoft is the worst thing that has came out for video games systems. I think that they never should have tried to top some of the other systems and if they would they should work at wut they do instead of rushing to come out so fast.

  45. T. Boyd [ August 18th, 2006 at 9:52 pm ]

I’m experiencing the over heating issues with my xbox360. Microsoft rushed the system in order to make holiday 05. Their 90 day warranty is a joke because the system flaw becomes worse over time and peaks with the summer temperatures AND summer releases - Oblivion and Dead Rising. More and more systems are going to crash and Nintendo is going become the major player if Microsoft keeps stonewalling customers. It’s their choice - they can scam millions or make millions.
Now is the pivotal moment for MS, not the launch, that was a disaster and is still killing them. Now they have to own up to their mistake and let Halo 3 clean up the mess. Do the right thing Microsoft and gamers will flock to you. Or do what everyone expects you to do and become a distant yet painful memory as gamers return old reliable - Nintendo.

    Tom

i had my 360 since day one,9 months later i get the game freezin and then finally the evil red rings.now i gotta send it in for $129,thats a bunch a BS.:A word to the bozos at the Microsoft factory:If you guys wanna succeed in the videogame world u may wanna test your sh*t throughly before releasin’ it to the world and not rush it out just to try to get a headstart into the next generation because too many systems died on us way too early and we put too much money into these systems for a very short lifspan:My Advice to my fellow 360 buddies that got the RED RINGS OF DEATH,just man up,pay the $129 and sell it on ebay, unless u dont mind payin $129 every 4 to 9 months.

  47. Thaddeus Spann [ August 20th, 2006 at 5:25 am ]

I purchased an Xbox 360 in January of this year. After two and a half months the game console would freeze up when I played any game or music. Then eventually it just froze permanently with purple and black checkers across the screen and the 3 red quadrants around the power button.

I sent it in and they fixed it for free being it was under waranty. Just 3 days ago it did it again. I decided after being told I had to spend 129 dollars to pay for a broken piece of hardware that was doomed to fail again, that i would just wait and get a Wii. Undoubtedly the PS3 will have even worse hardware problems.

  48. Josh [ August 21st, 2006 at 12:23 am ]

I thought I was one of the lucky people who got a working 360 on launch day. None of my games ever froze up, I had never overheated my machine, and I keep it dust free. But keeping it clean doesn’t help when the product they sold is obviously defective. my 360 flashed the three rings of death two days ago and now I can’t get it to work. I had my PS2 for 3 and a half years and it never had a problem, even after being through a house fire. Any person who has not had problems with their system, just wait a few months because it will happen. Why should we have to pay for an error that microsoft committed. If anything they should repair our machines for free and give something to ensure customer satisfaction and get repeat customers. Screw Microsoft. I’m getting a PS3 that will work.

  49. Matt [ August 21st, 2006 at 7:03 pm ]

Mine just crashed this past week, after speaking with three different supervisors I was only able to get my repair order down to $96. I am writing in to the company to present my case, they don’t have a phone number to actually speak with someone. I just want the damn thing fixed. Write in and try your case, if they deny it, and you’re still not happy, well, just read the title of this site. You’re not alone, half the people I know with 360’s are going thru this right now, it’ll only get worse.

  50. Mad xbox 360 owner [ August 22nd, 2006 at 4:28 pm ]

I have an xbox 360. I haven’t overheated yet but it is falling apart. My ether net cable port is broken and now they want me to pay $129 to get it fixed. I think they need to do a recall and give us new xbox 360 with the problems fixed!

  51. vic [ August 23rd, 2006 at 4:35 pm ]

Just this week my 360 crashed, and with it came the red ring of death. This isnt our imagination, they sold us junk. I was one of the first in line but havent played it much until recently, and here we go. It crashed. Something has to be done about it and someone has to be accountable for it. I also tried emailing someone from MS and the only people to respond to your request are sitting in friiking hut in the middle on INDIA

  52. Pissed off [ August 24th, 2006 at 1:31 pm ]

Has anyone noticed all the Xbox 360s that people are now reporting that have broken down since July 1 til now. Including myself I know of 8 people whose launched consoles and have crashed since July 1 with no problem before hand. I wonder if MSFT is programming the Xboxs to break down after a certain amount of time.

  53. Game Fanatic [ August 24th, 2006 at 3:07 pm ]

Nowadays everyones xbox is getting fryed. I hear the xbox 360 machines which were released from July 06 to present dont have any problems. My friend bought the Xbox 360 PGR3 bundle. I will buy xbox 360 if his doesn’t fry out. All xbox 360 consoles were defective when they were released between NOV. 05 and MAR. 06. I think I rather buy the Intercooling for xbox 360 for $40 than pay $129 and regret it. Personally I going to install water cooling system in my xbox 360 which will cost me way lower than $129 and around the same price as the Intercooling. This way I will never regret it.

  54. Hot Head [ August 26th, 2006 at 2:16 am ]

Well, just out of warranty by one month and the 360 goes belly-up. Started experiencing the freezing-up symptoms, and within 24 hours it was completely dead, with the infamous 3-light red ring. Call MS and was able to get a “discount” on the $129, down to $96. Really they should be fixing on their dime, since there is no way in hell that it should die after 7 monthes of use. Sounds like I’m not alone though. It’s unfortunate, because I had very high regards for MS dispite what so many others say. Well, that pedestal just lost alot of height. Unless the PS3 spontaneously bursts into flames (like Dell laptops), I can see they are starting to win the war without even sending their troops into battle. If I hadn’t invested so much money into it already, it would have made a great paper-weight for the recyclables. I really hope someone is able to get the ball rolling with putting legal pressure on MS.

  55. chris [ August 26th, 2006 at 10:35 pm ]

Ha! I hate M$. I sent my 360 in 2.5 weeks ago and it was repaired. However, the unit spent over a week just sitting at the repair center waiting to get shipped back to me. But, someone there lost it. Now, M$ is telling me that they have no record of me even sending in the system at all! They took my money, took my broken system, and now deny all knowledge of it. Phuck them, I’m waiting for a PS3.

  58. Dan Smith [ August 28th, 2006 at 3:05 pm ]

My xbox 360 console is locking up and have had the three red light ring come on. I purchased it just before Christmas ‘05 and it died today, Aug 28, 2006. Reading so many similar stories on the internet I am very upset. I have been involved in 2 computer related class action lawsuits Toshiba & Epson)and this screems lawsuit.

I am going to go ahead and send it back to xbox for repair. Hopefully I can talk them down from $129.00 as others have. If a class action lawsuit happens and is successfull, we most likely will have these repairs refunded and an extended warranty period given out. I know, wishful thinking.

  59. brock [ August 30th, 2006 at 2:48 am ]

I got an xbox on launch day and started having some freezing problems back in Juanuary. I didn’t think much of it as electronics are at times fussy and it only happened a couple of times. Now I also have th red ring and they have offered me the 129 dollar fix–plus 29.99 a year if I want a warranty. I guess I should feel happy mine lasted almost nine months–with me hardly playing it at all.

  60. joshua toledo [ August 30th, 2006 at 3:21 pm ]

I waited five hours in line for the thing at walmart on 11/22/05. after a week, it froze up. They sent me a new one. I followed all of the guidelines and the new one is now freezing. they tell me I need to give them 130 bucks to let them even look at it. 2 broken console within less than a year (following all of their advice) and I have to pay!!! BS!!! I will participate in any class action lawsuit. let me know if there is one.

My xbox 360 console also locked up, and I also get the 3 red lights and can’t get past the 360 logo. I purchased my xbox in January 06. I contacted Microsoft, and they said that I would need to pay $139 for them to repair it. I won’t be sending it in for repair. Instead, I’ll be contacting a lawyer.

I am on my 5th console! Nothing but a peice of shit and I am sick of Microsofts B/S and additional charges. 2 days after my warranty expired for my 4th unit they told me they couild not help me!, my warranty expired. Fortunately I purchased the in store warranty which is a simple exchange. I hope Microsoft gets their ass sued off!

  66. Kevin [ September 5th, 2006 at 1:39 pm ]

I just bought 2 xboxes and one of them started freezing and locking 1 week after using it twice.

CONNECTING TO Media Center Edition PC started my lock ups. Then once I shut it down, that was it, red circle of death as you say.

Though when I called for support, they managed to remind me I had the extended warranty I paid 59 bucks for and then corrected herself to say oh you are still covered under the regular warrantly. I had better be after just 2 WEEKS.

    Anyway,

They are sending a box out to me and have told me to place my xbox in it and expect it back in 2 weeks.

I told them the only reason I was not irate was because I owned 2 of them.

I only hope it holds up for another week since I boutght it a week after

Oh and it was manufactured 6-15-2006.
NO FIX YET I CAN SEE.

    LATER dudes.

  71. Pha Xiong [ September 10th, 2006 at 12:01 am ]

WOW!!!My xbox 360 died August 3rd, 2006. I didn’t know it was such a huge problem. It first started with Disk Read Errors from Fight Night Round 3, I bought a warrenty for that game so I just thought it was the disk’s fault. After I exchanged the disc, the new disc kept giving me the same problem. There after I threw on Oblivion, wish I could remember the hours I put into the game, but I did a lot. But on August 3rd, Oblivion froze on me. It gave me a loud scratching buzz from the tv and it froze like an old nintendo game when it wasn’t working right.
It kept doing that within 5mins of the 360 start up with and w/o a game in the console, and with and w/o the hdd in it. I called Microsoft and the guy was very helpful. He took me threw all the steps, it was still frezing on me on every step. He said it was the dvd’s fault and told me to pay $129 to get it fixed. How could it be the dvd’s fault when I took out the hdd as he told me to, and I was in the dash area with no games in the console like he told me to, and it still froze like an old nintendo? dvd drives mess up like this, even when your not using them? This sucks, Let us know what we can do to fight back and protect ourselves from what’s happening here, I’d like to get my xbox 360 running again, it’s a great console, just that I hope it’ll be built better next round.

Its funny. Today I was playing with someone on a game and they told me that that day, they had bought their 3rd xbox. I had told them that I had mine since christmas, and never had any problems. An hour later, it froze on me, then gave me the “Dreaded Red Ring” that looks like a friggin smile, blinking, like its laughing at you for buying such a worthless pile of junk. I don’t think I’m even gonna bother sending it in to get repaired.

My son got his XBOX 360 in January. Now he has had his 360 for 9 months it is freezing and then finally the evil red rings. Hardware error 79 Hardrive problem or loose wire. We removed the hardrive it showed no improvement. Now I hear people are giving MS another $129 to fix it. It has to be a completlely new machine with design flaws removed or your wasting good money after bad. Poor it down a rat hole to a bunch of charity loving children cheating creeps. Hey Bill G. your charity giving can begin by not cheating kids out of their allowance and making good on the goods you sell to children. Bill G. you can call you charity “C.R.E.E.P. or the Children. Ripoff. Eliminate. Entertainment. Program. I’d call you a few other words but we can’t use profanity here. But you are a 4 eyed 2 bit phoney. They tell you to send it in a plain brown box not the factory box. Why is this you ask it is to conceal that they are making crap and getting you fools to pay for a 2nd machine. What do youy think Sony or N. would pay that information. Forget it sell the games and wait for Sony PS3 or WIFI. MS is not a hardware company for god sake. I dont even believe they are a software company. All they are is a bunch of laywers with copy rights. If you gotta send your xbox 360 in for $129,thats a bunch a BS. Send it to me and I will kiss you. All you will get from MS is another piece of junk. So they can sell you Hallo 3 as a wet dream. A word to the bozos at the Microsoft factory. If you guys wanna succeed in the videogame world you may want to test your sh*t throughly before releasing it to the world and not rush it out just to try to get a headstart into the next generation of Sony PS3. Because too many systems died on your loyal customers,,,, way too early,,, and we put too much money into these systems for a very short lifspan. My Advice to my fellow 360 buddies that got the RED RINGS OF DEATH,just man up,don’t pay the $129 and sell your games on ebay, unless you dont mind paying $129 every 4 to 9 months to play one game or two that are worth playing in the MS XBOX 360 game consoles.

I Bought mine on sep 12 2006 i played it 7 times and last night I got the red rings of death. My box was man. on 4 10 06 so this tells me that microsoft is knowingly selling these defective units. I never heard of this problem until I went to the x box web page and started reading the forums. I am in no way new to gaming I had the xbox and ps2 was always cheaking game reviews on both talking with salesmen about the 360 and even waited almost a year to get one just incase of glitches and still never heard of this problem and I am not the only one of my friends who also bought 360s recently that never heard of this.Hopefully the store I purchased it at (costco wholesale) will refund me my money it has not been 30 days yet. I am also going to inform them of this huge problem microsoft is having with the junkbox360 and request they at least post information about it by the 360 consoles or hopefully pull them off the shelf after all you have to pay a membership fee to shop there. Down with microsoft i say.

then i demanded to get a new one they told me they gonna send an e mail to corporate and they make that decision. that was sometime in august. and guess what they still give me the f’n runaround.

I think the same thing is happening with all the XBOX 360s. 6 months after purchase, my box has the 3 flashing red lights of doom. MS knows about the problems with their boxes but won’t recall them. MS quoted me $140 to fix, when I complained to a supervisor $105. Still not good enough when I had to spend $800 for a package in order to get the thing. I’m filing with NYS consumer affairs. I would be interested in the class action suit as well.

  104. R. Wood [ October 22nd, 2006 at 4:38 pm ]

We also have the 3 red light problem. Same story here - we are out of warranty, so it will cost us $139.90 (plus shipping) to have it repaired. The machine isn’t even 9 months old. I am afraid that the repair will only fix the problem temporarily (like those cute little ’solutions’ they published just to get us past the warranty) and then we will have to fork out what will then be over $150 to get it fixed again. I can’t belive Microsoft treats it’s customers like this. I am not going to pay to get the Xbox 360 fixed. then i won’t spend more money on microsoft games.

I am wondering how they can come up with the dollar figure over the phone without even looking at my xbox. Oh wait, its because they all have the same damn problem. 113. Adrian Chambliss [ October 30th, 2006 at 2:09 am ]

Color me another 360 sucker. I have had my 360 for 5-6 months and now have the red lights of death. Same as a lot of other people, I called microsoft to get some help. I was given 3 corrective measures and nothing helped. To make things worse, this idiot tried to charge me $140 to fix something I never broke in the first place. What I am is an ex-customer who used to believe in Microsoft and there products. What did I get in return? Basically the finger. I’m not some PlayStation or any other kind of fanboy. I’m just simple 9-5er who plays games to relax. I’m not in the habit of paying $400 on a game console at one time, but I took a chance. If there is more info on how to get included in the law suit please drop me a line. Someone has to show microsoft they can’t just sell hard working people crap and get away with it. And to anyone out there who thinks it’s just a fluke, let me say this. Microsoft has a lot very smart people working for them. Do you honestly believe a company this big would produce and ship such a high priced item and not know it had bugs in it.

Got my 360 on July 17. It was mfg’d on April/2006. It’s now Oct. 30 and I get the 3 rings. Notice that I’ve had it for 3 months & 13 days. 13 days past the lamo 90 day warranty.

Called MS. Box needs to be sent back. I didn’t have the extended warranty.

I’ve used it infrequently, possibly 60 hours max.

Sign me up for the class action. There is some serious mfg defect with these things. I’ve treated mine as well as can be expected, so I know I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary to cause the 3 red lights of death.

  115. michael [ October 31st, 2006 at 11:15 am ]

The same exact thing happened to me yesterday.
I was playing call of duty and all of a sudden my 360 freezes up. I turned it off and turned it on again and it was working for about 5 minutes then it froze again. I turned it off one more time and the three rings of death appeared. At this moment panic started to sink in and I looked at the manual to seen if I could find out what was happening and it said that if three red lights were on that I should call 1-800- myxbox.
I called and an agent told me that I need to send my xbox to them and they will fix it but I have to pay $130.00. SO now I’m just sitting here trying to figure out how am I going to get that much money. Please let me know about theat lawsuit.

Mine died a few weeks ago - I was told a different story each time I called - from it’s misplaced, Fedex lost it, it’s been repaired, it’s at the repair center, wait another week, it’s been shipped, ooops no it’s still somewhere at the repair center. I was promised by a supervisor on a delivery date. I was told by another supervisor that he misled me . . . . I asked when exactaly will M$ determine that my 360 is lost - I was told that there is no way for them to tell. I was basically told that after shipping my console that I’m out of luck if they lost it - Is that even legal ?

  121. Bryan [ November 1st, 2006 at 4:05 am ]

I have had my 360 since January of 2006. I turned my system on a couple of days ago, and it locked up. Then I tried restarting it, and got the 3 red lights, and a couple of times I got an error message of 0079. I called MS, and they said to send it in because it was still under warranty. I took a friends 360 and hooked it up to the same cables that I have been using, and it won’t work either. Obviously there is a problem with something other than the 360, but they won’t admit it. I am in on any suit, and would really love to be able to play my system. I have spent well over $2000, and am extremely upset about this. How can a system have so many problems. It is obvious that this is just starting to happen to everyone. Let’s get this lawsuit going.

I have had my xbox since december and have had no problems till recently. I started off by just getting problems with the game crashing and having to start it all over again, then finally I got the red lights of death. It killed me. I have spent so much money on games and accessories. I was lucky to have bought the extended warranty. I took it in and got a new one. The first day I play my new xbox manufactured on march 06 it was already starting with problems. All I need now is the red lights again and my thoughts of xbox are going to be nothing but negative.

Son sold all his games and bought new Xbox360 March 31,2006; unit made Mar 1, 2006. Died (3 red rings of death) Oct 17, 2006 — just over 6 months for a $400 paperweight! MS quoted me $139 to fix, then $105 from a supervisor. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! I’m calling GA consumer affairs and would be interested in the class action suit as well. From loyal MS buyer for many years to MS antagonist — MS ARE YOU LISTENING!

Well my story is similiar to everybody else I got the ring of death after 6 months. It obvious Microsoft put out an expensive piece of crap. I have got the run around from the support staff waited on hold last night to talk to a supervisor was told that there was alot of people that needed to speak to a supervisor that is because they sold a piece of crap. Email me with whatever you need to file the suit

My 3rd console arrived crushed. The shipping box was undamaged.when I took the bag of the console the faceplate fell out in 3 pieces. the side w/the usb ports was crushed.this unit was damaged before it was shipped! I had to move because the house I lived in was going up 4 sale.I made a note of my new address on the work order. I called Microsoft& gave them my new address. They still shipped it to my old address. Now they wont do anything except lie to me.6 weeks without a console! I want to be re-imbursed for the 2 thousand dollars I have spent on games, peripherals & service.ANY advice would be appreciated. Im a gamer ,not a lawyer = HELP ceasartony@yahoo.com

  126. Matt Hoag [ November 3rd, 2006 at 8:26 pm ]

I just experienced the three red “rings of death” today after having the system for four months. No doubt a product defect. No longer under warranty. I’m out $140 if I want to fix it. I don’t. I want a replacement system for free, with no defects. I should not have to pay for a faulty product. I believe that Microsoft is very much in the wrong on this one.

Friend raded in every xbox and ps2 system, games, and accessories he had to get his 360 last night with Dead Rising. I kid you not when I say that his system shut off after about 30 mins, no red rings flashing, just dead. Game is stuck inside s well since it wont even come on. He’s taking back to Gamestop tommorrow and see about getting his money back or exchanging it.

  131. Dan Perkins [ November 7th, 2006 at 4:14 pm ]

I bought my xbox 360 on November 22nd, 2005 and had not one problem with the system. Then, one month after the 6 month warranty was up it began to feeze up. Within 24 to 36 hours it was dead! I called Microsoft and they gave me the same deal as a lot of you received, $129.00 to get it fixed or replaced. THANK GOD I bought a 1 year warranty from EB Games. They replaced it on the spot and allowed me to purchase a New Warranty on the new system. Fast Foward to today when my second 360 just craped out from THE SAME FREAKIN PROBLEM!!!! Now I’m PISSED!! I will be on my third 360 in less than a year from it’s release! When I tried to talk to Microsoft, they were having technical issues with their own database, so they couldn’t even help me! They said that they might be able to help tomorrow. F U Microsoft on the day of the biggest release in the history of the system!!! (Gears of WAR) I’m about to slam the broken piece of shit against a brick wall!! So back to EB Games I must go, to get another XBOX 360 and $40 more for a new 1 year warranty that is worth it’s weight in gold!

My PC which is on most of the time still works fine. My PS2 still works fine. The machine should still be working years rather than months later.

Im so upset. ive had my 360 for a few months and it just died tonight. It had the 3 blinking red lights and ti wont even turn on. Now i cant even get my game out of the system so i am literally screwed!

  137. Ronald [ November 10th, 2006 at 3:44 pm ]

I bought my XBOX360 in late August 2006 hoping that Microsoft took car of the glitches and problems. I was wrong. Early October my XBOX displayed the 3 dreaded red lights. I sent it back and received it late October and guess what. After 30 mins of gameplay the 3 flashing red lights appeared again. I’ve been waiting for them to send me a box. It’s been 2 weeks and I have yet to receive the repair box. Whenver I call, I’m on hold for about 30-45mins and wait for a supervisor - another 30min. wait - I’m still waiting for my UPS Tracking number -It’s been over 2 weeks - WTF MICROSOFT. I get a different story from each Supervisor and they never back up what they say. I also subscribe to XBOX Live and Gamefly- I losing everyday- I feel so helpless.

  138. Paul [ November 10th, 2006 at 11:59 pm ]

My 360 died like a week ago. It will start up every now and again but about 5 mins into a game it freezes and I get the red ring of death on reboot. Worst part is that after my warranty expired I cracked the case open and replaced the white box with one I bought online. Well M$ told me that since I broke the warranty seal they won’t repair it at all. Way to stand behind your product. And by the way David, If you pop the faceplate off there is an emergency release under the DVD drive so you can get your game out. All you need to do is stick a paperclip in the hole.

  139. big monkey [ November 11th, 2006 at 2:02 pm ]

yea, i got in on the 1st shipment of 360’s and most things are fine. but the game elder scrolls locks up all the time but if i send the gametag thing to the mem-card the system runs ok , slow but ok !! after playing i have to send the tag thing back and sometimes i loose stats ands saves. fuck that!!!!
i just got the game gears of war and i was dumbfounded to find that the system update thing hadn’t come up but the game just booted and then the fucking problems started. ??
the system locked up and i had a graphic glitch and a sound loop?? and now the 360 at boot, in game, and any time it feels like it will do one of 4 things to me???
    1.freez
2.the screen changes color and nothing
3.the system power light will turn on and the sound glitch then nothing
    4. boot and allow me to start my game and then any of the other 3 options sets in and i get fucked???

i have to now trash the fucking thing and my games have to goto the used game place and i’ll get almost nothing to them. or i can pay for a BRAND NEW FUCKING 360 ??? i’ll never pay for any thing from MICROSOFT AGAIN FUCK THEM AND XBOX,WINDOWS,AND ANYTHING ELSE
SONY ALL THE WAY FUCK XBOX

  141. Jeremy [ November 13th, 2006 at 12:46 am ]

Same story as the rest of you guys. I’ve had my Xbox 360 since June of 06. Bought it to give my step-daughter and me something to do together. 5 days ago it started locking up. 3 resets later I got it to play a DVD. Next day it is and has been locking up on the Xbox logo and giving me the 3 red lights. I’ve done everything the MS site told me to do, unpluged cables, took of the HD, everything. MS once again releases botched merchandise knowingly and then expects the consumers to stand back and take it. MS wants $129.00 plus S/H to repair a gaming console that was flawed from the get go. I think not, does anyone else here have an NES? I do and guess what? That little bugger STILL WORKS, granted it takes a little lung power to get it booted but it still works. Same for the Super NES and the N64. My PS2 still works as well. MY GOD I’ve shelled out over $1,000.00 friggin bucks for a paperweight and some shiny disks. MS basically STOLE money from me. And now wants to steal more. I for one am just about fed up with MS. I am not going to shell out the repair cost. I am going to take this as a loss and a learning experience and buy the Wii. Nintendo has never let me down and I don’t see them doing it now!

Xbox 360 locks up giving me the 3 rings of death as well. Only on the Xbox 360 games how ever. all older games i have played have been fine IE Xbox games. I called Microshaft and they said it was not there problem this was 10 days after i got the box(4 Months ago). I told them that the system was under warinty but they said take it to court. I was not happy. I think i will be avoiding microshaft’s game systems from now on. I was so hoping to play Halo 3 to finish it but this does not look like it will happen.

  144. Josh [ November 14th, 2006 at 5:31 pm ]

I am 15 years old, and worked hard all last summer to save and be able to buy an Xbox360. I did buy one, and I have been very careful and gentle with it (no dust, no more than 2 hrs of gaming at one time, no moving it around the house, etc.) Well, my Xbox360 just decided to give me the 3-RED-LIGHTS-OF-DEATH and Microsoft is now asking for additional $160 of my hard earned money to have it fixed.
Here is an idea for all Microsoft Xbox360 victims:
    - Let’s place our “Xbox360: broken console” on sale in eBAY clearly explaining that it is broken because Microsoft desgined a poor quality, unstable and unreliable piece of equipment. Also explain that even though it is Microsoft’s fault that it broke, Microsoft will charge a lot of money to repair it. There soon will be 100000s of broken consoles in eBAY. Maybe Microsoft will then notice and decide to clean up their act.
    - Let’s also place “Xbox360 Broken Console” videos in YOUTUBE , and include a statement of how the sad/angry owner feels towards Microsoft. Also explain how the Xbox360 broke. Also include the wonderful conversations with Microsoft’s support call centers.
Let’s take some action. Any followers?
See you all in eBAY and YOUTUBE!!

I wish I would have googled this site earlier. Mine is a classic case. 95 days into owning the unit and it fried. So, $129 up front, which is hilarious, and I have to pay for shipping. Love this unit, but a 90 day warranty, that’s a joke.

  156. Mike Antonellis [ November 19th, 2006 at 6:57 pm ]

Wow, afer reading these comments I feel like I am now going to sound like a broken record. I am having the same problem that some of you are. I bought my 360 in April 2006 and today it crapped out. That’s only about 7 months of use I got out of it. Compare that to about 4 years I got out of my PS2.

I was playing Gears of War and suddenly the picture started to deteriorate, as if the color depth just stopped working. After rebooting a couple of times, the problem would disppear and reappear. Then finally after a reboot I got the 3 rings of death. Now I called the support line and after the usual power cycling, told me I would have to send my console out for repair. Oh, and that it would cost $139 (not $129 like you all seem to be paying. Did they raise the rate??). And to really stick it to me, I have to pay for the shipping costs TO the repair center. You mean to tell me MS can’t even pay for the damn shipping when they obviously have an inferior product!?
And what pissed me off even more is that the MS support kid was talking to me like he was my buddy. Let me explain: it seemed weird that this kid was calling me “dude” and “buddy” and asking me if I was partying hard this weekend. I’m all for friendly customer service, but this just seemed a little too contrived.

I’ve heard about 360s having issues. My own brother is on his 2nd console as well as a friend of his. What are the odds of that!?!?!? I never owned the 1st XBOX, I had a PS2, but I never heard of the frequent failure rates that I’m hearing of with the 360.

I am interested in joining the suit if it’s still in the works. Good luck to us all.

  157. Brandon J. Olsen [ November 19th, 2006 at 10:21 pm ]

Widespread!!! I know six people who have purchased an xbox 360 since June 2006. All six, including myself, have had to send our 360s in for repair due to overheating!

About 2 months out of warranty and now the three red lights! What a bunch of BS. Now MS wants 140 or so just to tell me whats wrong with it. What a scam. Spend 1000$ for a system and accessories then when it crashes they expect you to pay even more to get it fixed. This is a joke.

  164. Artemio (Tim) Cacanindin [ November 23rd, 2006 at 2:32 am ]

After ~6 months of relatively light use, our Xbox 360 got the 3 red lights of death (RLOD). Am wondering if this occurrence is partially due to use of the more throughput-intensive games such as Gears Of War; our unit only started up after GOW came out, so maybe the increased processor usage required had something to do with this. In any event, sign us up for the class action suit, if it really happens.

  165. Josh [ November 23rd, 2006 at 8:59 pm ]

Yep, I bought a 360 in march. it broke (It wont turn on at all. I pust the power but and the orange light turns red, and it isn’t the brick that is broken) about a month ago and microsoft wants $140 to get it fixed. the way I see it they should fix it for free cause the f*cked up the design.

I got my xbox360 about 6 or 7 months ago in May. Yesterday(Dec.2nd) I was playing Gears of War and it worked just fine. Later, I was in the mood to play fable, and from that moment on, it has not worked. The game kept freezing and was all static. I figured it was just the game, so I went back to playing Gears of War. The same thing was happening. My 360 would turn on and then freeze. I unplugged everything and let it sit for a while, and did all of the troubleshooting steps on xbox.com/support. I tried turning it on and this time I got the 3 red rings of death. It has not worked at all since. When I pay upwards of almost 1000 dollars on console and games and it breaks after 6 FUCKING months, im gonna be a litlle pist off. I had my old xbox for 4 years and there was never a problem with it. Where do I sign up.

  176. AB [ December 3rd, 2006 at 4:47 pm ]

Just got my 3 rings of death w/ 0020 error. Now I’m a business man and I know that when you enter a market and sell a product, if that product is defective, you’re obliged (if at least by moral standards) to repair or replace the product at your own cost. Even Sony, with it’s battery problems, has agreed to pay the price of making defective units and is expected to pay upwards of $500 million to solve the problem.

Most people give Sony shit for the debacles they’ve experienced from the spyware in music CDs to their poorly executed PS3 launch. But in the end at least a Sony customer (end user or otherwise) knows that Sony guarantees their products.

I’ve decided that instead of paying MS $129+shipping to fix my console, I’d rather buy a Core for twice the price and minimize the profit they’d make on me.

MS sucks. I had my 360 for 5 months and 10 days and now it is nothing more than a scrap pile. I called them and they told me that I was past the warranty and that I would have to pay $140 plus shipping. The thing that irritates me the most is that the guy told me that my problem was unique and that it sounded like a hardware problem. I will join any lawsuit e-mail me. slicktmj@yahoo.com

Check this out. Some States have civil codes that say that the consumer is protected for three years. I searched California Civil Code after a post by someone on another site said it was that was in Maine. Check out California civil code 1793.03.

Damn a little over a year and I’m screwed, but I turn on my 7 YEAR OLD PS2 and it works. Sony aint so bad afterall. HELLO PS3!!!!

when i first bought my ps2 i was a lot younger and took it from friends house to friends house, dropped it loads and basically treated it like a piece of S*!t! it still works perfect after all these years. my xbox 360 has been treated like fookin goddess, kept clean, in open space, never moved. and the red lights come on. the unit shouldnt have been released. Im not even gonna get started on the customer service i got, absolutely disgraceful. i too shall be selling my stuff when repaired and going back to sony when the PS3 is released.

    HOLY SHIZZ!!!

I spent most of my day fighting and loosing the 360 battle.

I bought my 360 with the HD for $400.00 in May of 2006. I set it up in June but first started to get in to gaming in September.

My longest period of activity was about 4-hours on a Saturday and another 2 on the following Sunday. These were the only back to back long stretches of activity that the console endured.

After a 360 recommended download, I got the 3-rings of death.

I called MS and spoke with a nice woman named Grace. After she failed to help me, I asked for her Supervisor and got another woman named Chelo.

She was rude and as helpfull as tits on a bull.

Will someone please answer the request I am about make. PLEASE LET ME IN ON THIS CLASS ACTION SUITE. I have documented my whole 83-minute conversation with MS and will do ANYTHING TO GET BACK MY $400.00.

I also was told that for $139.00, I could have it repaired. WHAT THE F?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  189. vern [ December 8th, 2006 at 11:14 am ]

I do not own a 360 but I repair them. todate I have had 5 come to the shop with different issues. All with the 3 rings of death. All I can say, guys is that I sympathize with you on this issue and best of luck on the lawsuit. It is about time someone stood up to microsoft. GO FOR IT!!!

  190. Chris Orlowski [ December 14th, 2006 at 7:56 pm ]

When the day comes and the consumer is heard; Microsoft will be out of Millions. Bring on Sony. I’ve been a gamer for 30 years..Atari, Collecovision, Intellivision, Sega, Nintendo, Sony…not once did I ever have a machine broke. I still have them today and they all still work. Now comes XBOX 360…got mine in early August 2006; by the end of the month it was chewing up discs with rings on discs; replaced it at Target; tried another one although sceptical and right after the 90 day period I got the three rings of death; just after finally logging onto marketplace for the first time. Now they want $130 to repair it. That’s crazy! I’m onboard for the law suit and here is me making sure that I have documented my frustration with a poor product that does not do what’s advertised …WORK! I feel like I just bought the old pet rock scam for $600+.

  191. bluetrepidation [ December 15th, 2006 at 7:36 pm ]

Paid the $96.75 to have my console fixed. Sent me a new unit. A few months later I’m getting the red halo again. M$ sent me a check for %50 of the repair fee. Half? Ummm, I’d like a FULL REFUND. I called support again and was told I’d have to ship my power supply in and that I had to pay for shipping out of pocket. I asked for the person’s manager and was greeted by Jeff who verbatim spewed out M$ NEW policy for not paying shipping on repairing “accessories.” Since when is a power supply an accessory? (accessory: a thing that can be added to something else in order to make it more useful, versatile, or attractive) Frankly a power supply is NEEDED for it to function period! I was also told on the phone that anyone who purchased a 360 in 2005 would have their repair fully refunded but since I got half I had to talk to corporate because “they have nothing to do with this.” There is no way to talk to them so I was told they would call me. Yeah right. Whatever that means. Point is we shouldn’t be paying shipping. Anyone who paid to have their 2005 box fixed should be getting a FULL REFUND sooner or later. What to do? CALL M$ and COMPLAIN. Ask to talk to the person’s supervisor. COMPLAIN SOME MORE. Refuse to pay shipping! File a complaint with the: http://www.thebbb.org Follow up on the filed complaint! This is America. Power is in numbers! Or $$$$$$$ is you are M$! Oh and last… ASK FOR JEFF!

  192. Tad [ December 16th, 2006 at 4:49 pm ]

How do I get in on this lawsuit? I was planning on looking into a class action myself on Monday. I’ve been dealing with MS support for about two weeks now. Purchased my 360 in April ‘06. 360 didn’t get played all summer. Started playing GoW fairly heavily when it came out and I started my fiasco a few weeks ago.

Originally started having a screen freeze problem playing anything, i.e. discs, demos or arcade off the hard drive. Then it started freezing on start up. Then this morning I finally got my red lights of death.

I can’t believe they have this prevalent an issue and then want the consumer to spend an additional 30% plus of your purchase price(if you bought the premium system) to repair. I guess this is MS’s way of charging the same price as Sony. Please get me any info you can regarding the lawsuit.

My 360 just died 6 months to the day after I purchased it. The manufacture date printed on the back is 04-27-2006. My receipt from Micro Center is dated 6-19-2006 and today is 12-19-2006. My 360 has barely been used as I am a busy working professional. It has been kept in an open area. I have not modded or tampered with it in any way. In my opinion, Microsoft should warranty their product for at least one year from the date of purchase. Why is it that Europeans receive a 12-month warranty and Americans only get 90 days? Please send information regarding the class-action lawsuit.

  195. Frederick Brown [ December 20th, 2006 at 12:45 pm ]

Same here, about 6 weeks ago I put in a new game, it asked to update so I did, that’s when the 3 lights and the fun began. Unplugged rebooted did it all so many times I lost count. It finally worked and I was able to play with no problems.
I hadn’t played for about a week and when I put in the new game I had just rented it asked me if I wanted to update, so you know what I did, that’s right, I did it…BIG MISTAKE!! This time it really seems to be “Bricked” as they say. I’ve e-mailed Micro$oft as the last time I spoke to them they were less than helpful.
How do you get into that class action suit????

  196. Derek [ December 21st, 2006 at 11:56 am ]

I bought my X-Box 360 last christmas. Within 3 days, NHL 2K6 was completely fried. Within the next 4 days, Need for Speed Most Wanted, was done. So, I took my 360 and the games to the shop, and got everything replaced. The second xbox 360 lasted about 2 months, before I got these facinating red lights. I was like…is this a christmas event or something? Nope….thing didn’t work anymore. So I replaced it AGAIN. Now, I have NFS: Most Wanted, who freezes every 10 seconds, which I have replaced like 4 times. SO it’s not the game. MLB: 2k6, that freezes everytime a home run is hit. And NHL 2k6 that can’t return to the main menu after playing to a game. I have replaced these games many times, so it can’t be the discs. Fricken stupid XBOX.

Where do I sign up for the lawsuit?

  199. SHAWN [ January 1st, 2007 at 6:28 pm ]

Dear MS, thank you for letting me join your club of suckers. My only request is that I be placed in your VIP section because not only have I purchased about 20 games that routinely freeze up, but I set the standard for most suckers by paying over $800 for your ticking time bomb system. Happy new years, On January 1, 2007, I became the proud recipent of the ring of death for the mighty Xbox 360. You guys rock…I’m so exicted about the future, I’ve estimated that the xbox 720 will arrive around 2010, which gives me 3 years to pay $140 approximately every 4 months for the privalege of experiencing the ring of death (0020 Unknown error code) for a grand total of 1,260 in repairs. Combine that with all the wonderful games I’ll keep spending $60 a pop on with cool graphics that freeze up at key moments….IN OTHER WORDS, MS (MOTHER SUCKERS), I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER ITEM RELATED TO THE XBOX 360 EVER AGAIN…see you in court.

Had my Xbox 360 since march 2006 and it went to red lights last week, then to one red light error code E79 then back to three rings. I am still waiting on my box to ship it out (for free thankfully) and have been told by xbox live that I am SOL on my month without my console and they cant reimburse it for me. I am in for any forth coming lawsuit, this is getting out of hand!

  202. Mark Quinn [ January 24th, 2007 at 8:40 am ]

I just got the red rings and they are going to repair it, they said it will take over 2-5 days and then said 8-10 days for shipping so I’m looking at a month w/o a console that I paid over 500 bucks for…

What a joke, hard drive manufacturers let you pre-order a device and then ship it to you with the drive in the box why do I have to send this thing in and then wait a month? Ludicrous.

I’ll never buy any piece of hardware from them again.

Where do I sign up for the lawsuit?

I recently got the 3 rings of death, on 2/6/07, my unit was a launch unit, and even bought the extended warranty. Called Microsuck up and they said it would be 129.00 dollars to repair then a 90 day warranty. I have heard many people saying there systems are coming back for only a short period of time before they have to send it back again for repair- I’m bracing for the worst. Some of the searches I have been doing on the problem say it is cold soldered joints that are causing the problem. Sounds like a factory defect and we should not be liable for any repair charges. Thanks microsuck for the 500.00 dollar, soon to be 629.00 dollar plastic brick.

I am now on my 7th xbox which is also broken. Broken on arrival. First DVD trouble, then after 3 days a flashing red light. I have had supervisors speak down at me like a child, I have had call operaters shout at me. I have threterned legal action unless they meet my demands, they are a BRAND NEW console, (had 6 refurbished, most broke on arrival) a 12 month warranty, 12 months xbox live, and 2 games. I have already had 3 games and a wireless pad, but I didnt ask. I was offered these. Last night I was going to make a deal. Instead I got another cheeky operator that said I had had a new power cable, component cable, control and games for compensation. Firstly, the wires were replacements. They broke. The rest was offered to me back in September. I didnt ask for them. Last night they also offered me a deal where I have to pay £30 for a years warranty or £60 for 2 years. Because I was once again spoke to like a criminal, and not someone who has paid well over £1000 for faulty goods, they have until the end of today to accept what I have asked for, or I will write to the legal department in their HQ asking for ALL my money back or I will take them to court. For people out there that say this is childish, you must have a lot of money to buy a paper weight! My email is up there. I want anyone and everyone whos xbox has broken to email me with your experience. I will take this as far as I can and would love to have your consent to give them more examples. Dont let them get away with this. It is wrong. It is illegal. I dont know about you fella’s in the states but here in the UK we have protection with the Faulty Goods Act. At the very least get compensation. You have paid good money! Look forward to hearing from you. Mark

i had a launch unit. It has worked perfectly until yesterday, when i got the rings of death. Funny how its right after the warrenty goes out. I had just dropped $200 on the HDDVD drive, plus i have purchased probably 20 games over the past year and 3 months. I didnt call in for a warrenty, i have had most every console every made and never had one break on me or had to call in to make sure i got an extended warrenty. I still have a playable Coleco !!! so, i take care of my stuff. I called Xbox and wanted to charge me $140 to fix my machine. I told them its in a ventalated, open space, i havnt mistreated it since i have put in over a grand into the system, so why after giving microsoft all this money should i have to pay an additional $140. This is bullcrap. I love the system, but faulty machines. Microsoft is making a killing, cut people a break that have owned the machine over a year. Like i said, i have never ever had to purchase an extended warrenty on any console i have owned since Atari 5200 days, so it didnt “dawn” on me that i had to call in for this POS !!! Someone needs to do something about this

March 27, 2007 - I am the latest of the “red flashing lights” victims. I couldn’t find the website for the lawsuit and I am in the beginning stages of a class-action against Microsoft for these problems. I am NOT some sony guy trying to hurt microsoft - just trying to do what is RIGHT. A new website is being created within the next week where you will all be able to log your system serial numbers and names in order to take part (no costs at all). Yes, the lawyer may make out here, but this is for justice…nobody else should have to buy a console that is sold with a defect that microsoft is in the know about. I will post the website on this blog page within the next week. PLEASE look back here to visit our new lawsuit website soon!!! It will only work if we all are in it together - Josh from Jacksonville, Fl.

My xbox360 has just died..displaying the red ring of death…red lights. The unit in question was december 2005 and pre-ordered..and one of the first.I understand that early American versions were repaired free of charge as microsoft acknowledged that they were faulty..British models however do not get the same WARRENTY and microsoft uk support pretends that it has never heard of the current situation.I have been informed that I must pay to have the console repaired!!! I am reluctent to have the console repaired as how long before it breaks down again…and what warrenty do they give on the actual repair 3 hours???but as other people I am tied to this product because of all accessories/games etc.I am writing to SONY to ask if they might offer to take the faulty xbox360 consoles as part exchange.. say give you £100 trade in AGAINST THEIR SUPERIOR QUALITY PLAYSTATION3 and then as publicity STUNT SMASH the TRADE IN xbox360 in the store with hammer….and throw it in the dustbin…Then proceed to hand over a new superior Playstation3 with extended warranty….mICOSOFT would be Finished in the games console market for good and if you ask me…THAT is exactly what they deserve….

I’ve just had my third 360 crap out on me. How does a company get away with this?! Just look at the length of this list of complaints and you’ll see that microsnot has gotten more than a few calls in regards to another burnt out xbox. The problem is so big they have entire buildings full of operators dedicated to answering all the calls from us! I guess the money made on each xbox by far excedes the wages of all the operators that have been employed. When it worked, it kicked ass, but now its just another brick in my wall.

  219. Bryant [ April 22nd, 2007 at 6:44 am ]

I bought the launch system after waiting in line for 8 hours. Since then, I have dropped over $1100 into the system, games, and hardware. She has had intermittent freezing problems ever since the launch. However, they were few and far between until December ‘06. (Barely over 1 year after launch. Maybe a coincidence…) Since then, her condition has gotten worse and she has finally passed on… claimed by the XBOX 360 Cancer AKA Three Rings of Death.
    RIP MY_SICK_360 11/22/05 - 4/19/2007
Fly with those wings, you angel, fly. May ye find comfort in that ye are ever in the company of multitudes of thou brethren, and … sistren.

Anyway, I treated this thing like delicate China (It was actually made in a place called China, too. Another concidence!). I had read about the 3 rings from the first week of release and have done all I could to prevent it. But, in the end, all my pampering was no match for the poor design and/or manufacturing and/or “remote demolition” of the 360.
I will not pay $130 for a refurbished, soon-to-be-dead 360 when they should be replacing these things with WORKING units FREE. Anyone who replaces thier system by giving this company more money has issues. These companies will continue to run business this way as long as we keep saying, “Duh, OK. Take whatever you want. I just need my system.” Why in the world would you pay them more to be screwed again? Microsoft will NEVER get another penny from me. Same for Sony and their PoS3. Nintendo is far superior quality-wise, but lacking greatly in other areas. So, no replacement system here.
But, I hear Patrick Volkerding has released Slackware 11 and Vista was released with more bugs than an episode of FearFactor. So, there’s at least an easy transition PC-wise. Also, I after being forcibly retired from Guitar Hero II, I now have time for real guitar practice. So, there is life after the death of a 360.
By the way, I am definitely in on a suit against these crooks. Where do I sign up?

Hello. My experience: My 1st Xbox 360 lasted 16 months before the red ring of death. The 2nd one lasted 8 days, however it was disc drive problem not the red ring of death, 3rd one is still working. If there is a class action law suit in the works, I would like to join in. I haven’t met one person that isn’t at least on there 2nd 360. Microsoft should be held accountable for this poor design.

I guess it’s welcome to the club, we bought the 360 for our son for Christmas, worked unitl the end of February, took 30 days for repalcment (refurbished of course) played 3 hours and died again. Customer support is a joke, it is like they are reading from a script and can’t really do anything. Not impressed at all.Hope Bill enjoys his money cause we sure don’t enjoy his product or service.

  222. Mike [ May 1st, 2007 at 2:43 pm ]

I just gave my 360 a one way ticket to the middle of Crescent Lake in Waterford, MI. It’s sharing the same watery grave next to my wife’s cell-phone. Obviously MSFT commitment to fixing this problem is at best a very limp effort. I for one have lost complete confidence in MSFT. Consumer Confidence in a fortune 500 CO. will eventually erode the stock price, unless they can effectively drown out the voice of the discontent.

  223. Tom [ May 9th, 2007 at 10:59 pm ]

I’m getting so ticked off at microsoft. My first issue with the 360 happened when I took about a two-three week break from playing it. Then one day I figured what the heck why not start it back up again. So I fired it up only to get the message that the disc was a “Unlayable Disc”.. I found this odd, since the disc had no marks on it, but I thought it must have been the disc or something. However not a single Dvd, 360 game, or CD would work, I always got the “Unplayable Disc” message. So after contacting their support line they finally said that they would replace it for me (Thankfully I was still in warrenty). Now that I have had my second console for a while I thought my days of problems would be over….. I was way wrong. Again I had taken a break from playing and again the moment I started up the console it would freeze and the pixles on the screen would be all screwed up. Now i wouldn’t be as mad as I am now, but I only have 5 days to get this thing fixed before the Halo 3 public beta testing begins. This is just getting on my nerves. I’m at least thankful that my two consoles have lasted this long unlike some people who are on their fourth and fifth consoles, but enough is enough.

  224. Edward Fanelli [ May 14th, 2007 at 3:33 pm ]

My xbox 360 quit working after a couple of days, but it had only been used for less then 2 hours. I will happily join your lawsuit against the most greedy company that exists. I am switching my PC to a Mac and of course telling everyone not to buy anything microsoft. I have been a programmer since I was 13, and had my first job as a programmer when I was a teenager. I know how bad Microsoft is, why did I get an xbox 360? I don’t know why I thought it would be more reliable than their PC operating systems. It is actually much less reliable, although it is a hardware issue and not software. I don’t think microsoft can get anything right. When I think of all the children receiving an xbox 360 as a present only to be crying minutes or hours later because their new video game doesn’t work, it makes me wish something horrible would happen to the children of microsoft employees.

I am now on my third 360 and my 3rd wireless network adapter. 360 is connected into the surge protected outlet of a UPS system. Even with that, the wireless network adapter gets easily fried during a brownout. 360 itself doesn’t fare much better. I have a poorer UPS system on my main computer, a medium level HP desktop, and it has survived even unprotected power spikes. 360 is just not built very solidly.

Just got off the phone with foreign…I mean customer support. I bought my xbox 360 last year, it gave the dreaded three flashing red lights and I sent it off to be repaired. It came back, I’ve played it for four months and again the same thing. Now they say the xbox is out of warranty and I have to pay for it to be repaired! WTF!?! This is the second time and all they do is ask for my credit card number? This is turning into a big scam!

  229. Danny Osborne [ May 19th, 2007 at 6:05 pm ]

I bought my xbox 360 just two months ago and I get the three flashing red lights “SYNDROME” like so many others. Microsoft says they have fixed the problem on the newer machines? NOT! They are repairing it free of charge but I found out that this does not mean that they extend the warranty contract! I drove an hour and a half to my brothers house to play and I guess I carried the “syndrome” with me. We played two games…about 30 minutes in all and then his machine locked up, a victim of Microsofts dreaded syndrome. What’s up with this!?!

I will now be moving on to my Third Xbox 360, I live in Canada and think that we need to get some sort of class action lawsuit going up here as well against Microsoft Canada. General Hardware Failure with the Error Code 0020 (Unknown Error) - Why have error codes if you can’t decipher what the hell they mean.
The almightly Microsoft Corporation - These clowns are turning into nothing more than an organized crime syndicate. It needs to stop, they simply do not have the right to sell crapware to people with the KNOW is guaranteed to fail and then not have the decency to own up to the problem and offer a general recall with a free replacement unit (one that works properly).
Instead they lie about the severity of the problem in order to sleeze there way out of coughing up the money for an obvious and grossly negligent business decision.
There — My rant is finished

  233. another happy xbox buyer [ June 3rd, 2007 at 1:55 pm ]

My system was purchased on 12-5-06 was crashing (freezing) daily within first 2 months.
Third month I got the 3 red lights of doom.
I had always kept it on top of large desk in airconditioned 65-72 deg. clean environment.
Heck, it still had all plastic protectors over infra red etc.
IT WAS IMPECCABLY CLEAN AND WELL KEPT !!!!!!
Had to send it in for repair. After 3 wks with no response about system status. I had to contact 4myXBox to find out status.
I was told that MYoriginal system had been repaired and was being shipped back to me.
Well, 3 days later I did recieve a console but it was not mine.
So, I guess they will tell you whatever you want to hear jut to get you off the phone.
Any hoo, the system they sent me is scratched up, marked up, noisey and probably over a year old. Not just used, but, abused !!!!
It looks like it had been kicked around by some 8yr old.
Now they say they will ship me my original back if, and when they fix it, but, they want me to ship this POS back now….
sooooo…. I guess I’ll have to do without again.
Seems that they would atleast replace it with a new or comperable system,
especially after I offered to pay for a new one if the would credit my acount upon recieving back this replacement JUNK!!!!!

Well It Happened to me today. I got not 1, not 2, but 3 red lights of death. I know cant stand the word microsoft. I got my console last christmas. You think microsoft could have recalled the ebox 360 and fixed the problem, but, no, not eve 5 months aafter getting this piece of Junk does it crap out on me. Also I had not played it in nearly 2 weeks. I pop in a movie today and 10 min. later, frozen. I think every one should stop refubishing their xbox 360, because it obviously does not fix the problem. It is just a waste of money. I feel like smashing my 360 over the head of Bill Gates. I will never recomend this system again.

Same 3 ring problem here, I sure would like to know
what the percentage of xbox360’s have lasted a year.
I would have never purchased in the first place if I had known of all the troubles xbox has had.
My Sony has never had any issues.
Sure would like to have the money that I’ve spent on the xbox and live subscriptions back to buy a PS3.
I would love to join in a CALS to retain this.
Mine is being sent back as I speak.

I purchased my 1st Xbox 360 console sometime in 2006 and within 1year my console generated the 3 red rings of death. the console was sent for repair and as luck would have it, a few months later, the 3 red rings were generated on the refurbished unit I received as a replacement. I average approx 3 hours of gameplay per month and am extremely frustrated with this product. I know of at least 10 close friends that have experienced the same issues with thier consoles. What is Microsoft doing to compensate thier customers and rectify this issue?

7 months to the day. Red Ring of Death. Code 0102. Bought it at Costco, just because I knew it was going to happen. So back for a quick return and back online. I love their policy.

The problem seems to be the X Clamps warping the board with heat/time. It causes soldering to break and chips to loosen.

Rings of Death - 6/20/2007 Launch System, called Customer Service…I needed to be versed in the ‘Indian language’ to understand the ‘help’, its a total shame the service is this bad and unforgiving on those who were dedicated to stand in long lines and cold weather to get launch systems. I know I wont buy another MS product without a longer warranty or extended warranty now. $140.00 to repair their issues? I’d gladly pay shipping but not their crappy engineering flaws. By the way, I called 5 times, email 4 times and still no email response to ‘help’, last CSR directed me to Joe after I asked for a supervisor, another dot head got on the phone and basically told me how to play cricket, what a shame Microsoft trusts oversea’s assistance to present their company.

I recently got the same scratches and the exact same sound from a disk I was playing as seen at http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/news/Xbox-360-Game-Disc-Scratched.htm and the xbox was not moved It is the third disk that this happens to and i called xbox 360 support for the replacement of my system which is under warranty and they refused to give me a new one. By new one i do not want a refurbished one i really mean a new one. I didn’t even ask for the reimbursement of the disk’s that were damaged just the system being a new system. A New System After all the law suits being faught by microsoft a request such as mine should not be ignored !!! Hi Guys i just thought i’d post this comment as i must be the only person that is not completely annoyed with MS for the ring of death as i have been researching the problem and its not MS fault because i have had my 360 for about a year and a half now with no problems at all until i started using xbox live and updating my games and downloading content it seems to be the automatic games updates that are causing all these problems as there are small faults in the patches that the game designers are putting on live witch cause conflict with the hardware, also i have a friend that had 4 360’s in a matter of 3 days and as he is not the smatest person in the world i put it down to not plugging in the cables properly on his 4th console the guy in the shop plugged it all in for him and told him never to rmove the cables and true to for he has now had his the same amount of time as i have with no more problems. To all the people that have lost content and the achevment points MS do tell you when you phone them that you should remove all add ons like hard-drive faceplate memory cards so if you sent your in with your harddrive still on its your own fault that you lost it all really. I am annoyed at the fact that i’m without my 360 for 2 weeks maybe 3 but i’m not going to sue anyone for a problem that no-one has any control over.

just another small comment MS have also now extended the warranty for 3 years for the red light problem and all people that have had to pay for repairs are going to get the money they paid back so everyone wins really.

Here’s one for you.My xbox died 3 days before the extended warranty. So silly me knowing that it’s an over heating problem on the GPU as it’s all over the internet, say what do I have to loose and take it apart to blow the dust out of the box. No warranty at this time — then I have a warranty again, great. Call a lovely young hardly speaking english girl who tells me if it’s three rings we will fix it even if you opened the box. Send it in gets returned as tampered with. Call support speak to three englishcaped people then at last some cube dwelling, role playing, nerd type who tells me I am in no uncertain terms a tamperer no xbox for me.I tell the troll at the time I opened the xbox I had no warranty. He tells me I had other options before I tampered. What options? pay 150.00 to get it repaired is the answer. Why would I do that and not just go buy a new xbox I ask. Then you would not have tampered with your xbox is the repley. So I say your right because I would have bought a new xbox and the old one would be landfill. He says have good day I can’t help you with this matter any longer. I say RIGHT!!!

I had camped out overnight at the local game store to be one of the first to own the Xbox 360’s. I had loved the original Xbox so much and could not wait to get my hands on the new one. Morning came and those of us who had braved the cold night were rewarded with the knowledge that an individual had stolen the shipment of Xbox 360’s headed to that store. I went home empty handed and had to wait two weeks till his next shipment came in. After enjoying the 360 briefly, I had to send it in for repairs due to the ring of death. They had sent me another 360 in about three weeks. This one lasted longer until I had to send that one in for repairs due to the machine freezing up my games and eject tray not working. Three weeks later, I tracked the UPS guy down and met with him to get my package. I was excited to get back to my gaming. When I got home I plugged it in and to my surprise, no video. Did the whole thing with tech support. They had advised me they would be sending me a shipping box. When the video would work, I would play a game and fell victim to two ruined discs with heavy circular scratches. Talked to customer service again. They refused to do anything to help with my damaged discs in which their machine was responsible for ruining. A week after calling I still had not received my shipping box. Called customer service and they advised me that it had not been sent out. They will send it out immediately and it will be another week for me to get the shipping box. Thank you Microshaft!

My first xbox360 was bought January 21 2006 it lasted almost 1 year. I took it back to future shop and used my one time rerplacment warrenty, just about Dec,15 06. The second xbox lasted till June 26 2007. I phoned xbox was told a shipping box would be sent to me with in 5 bussness days by July 16 i stll had not seen the shipping box, was told by xbox that due to Peter Moores letter there was a glich in the system and i had to restart my repair claim. After repeated calls to xbox i was given a direct number to call my personal repair person to deal with who asured me xbox was tring their best and I would soon have my repair box. It took xbox till August 3 2007 to send me the box. I sent it back Aug 7/07, puralator courier told me it was recieved was recieved at xbox Aug 15/07 but they claim it was Aug 16/07 they got it. Its now August 30/07 still no returned xbox. I have been told by the personal repair person that it takes upm to 12 bussness days to unpack the broken one and send me a new one. It has been over two months to get the told i still have to wait. The repair center gave me false and misleading information i have been lied to, and i still have to wait. I am now looking to see if anyone is starting a class action lawsuit against xbox for their defective xboxes. If it takes 12 bussness day to unpack and send me a new one obviously they cant be with in their normal failure rates of 3 to 5 %. If any one has had simaliar problems or knows of a law suit web site in Canada plaese post it thanks.

I am so distgusted with the XBOX360 and their so called customer support. My son had his xbox 360 for about 9 months and all of a sudden it was not reading any games. I contacted customer support and they told me it had to be sent in for repairs. I sent it back to them in the beginning of Oct. Well UPS attempted to deliver it back to me and I was not home to sign for the package. UPS left a notice on my door stating the next attempt. Nobody ever came again or called me. I then called UPS and was told the package was lost. I contacted xbox customer support immediately and let them know the situation. They have been so unprofessional with me. UPS is going to reimburse xbox the money for the lost console but xbox refuses to send my son a replacement. They have lied to me over and over again. They have been very rude and unprofessional. One of their so called supervisors actually called me a liar. I am so upset over this situation and so sorry I ever bought this system for my son. I am looking to take legal action as well. I purchased a 360 for my son in April, while setting it up for the first time it was brought to our attention Microsoft packaged the wrong xbox in the box. We bought the one with the hard drive and wireless controller. Got home it had nothing, if it was not for the guy at walmart I would have never known it did not have the harddrive. I had no clue. Took it back walmart gave me a new one. Microsoft sent me a game that was 3 years old. how nice of them…right NOT. Anyway had it for 5 and half months then the 3 rings of red called sent it in, end of october. got it back on nov. 19th sent it back in after it took 2 weeks to get a new box mailed it out on the 5th of december. they recieved it on the 10th I received the same console back on the 17th hmmm did they fix it. NOT it still will not work but they can not send me any thing for my inconviences. they already sent me a wireless controller. they said they could offer me a game. the games they offered were old games as well. what a line of shit. I will never by microsoft again. I am looking for a lawyer at this time to sue microsoft any ideas or know of some names i will be more than happy to add your name to the suit as well. DONT BUY MICROSOFT….

  268. Sue [ December 20th, 2007 at 3:51 pm ]

We purchased our xbox chistmas 2006 (1 year ago) and god the red rings of death in november. MS sent us a UPS box on nov 19, we packaged it up and brought it to ups on the 20th. Now Microsoft says our box was never recieved and that ups or the customer (us) never sent it back. As of last night they can do nothing for us. They promised us our xbox back for xmas and since Dec. 1st we have been going back and forth just to find it. MS says they don’t have it (when they check our tracking number that they gave us) and UPS is telling them to check another tracking number to see if the serial number in the box is ours. The ups store only sent one the MS on the 20th but its not our tracking number. MS repairs in not cooperating and won’t even look in the other box to let s know if our xbox is in it. Now its 5 days before xmas and our 10 year old is getting rockband and call of duty 4 for christmas and he has no xbox to play it on. Now what do we do with all the money invested in this system over the past year. Trade it in for ps3? Unfortunatly ALL of his friends have xbox and xbox live. WE NEED ANSWERS FROM MS AS TO WHAT IS IN THAT OTHER BOX!
What if we buy him another xbox (and believe me, i don’t want to give MS my money) and his shows up at our door. What do we tell our son on xmas. More about this should have been on the news to warn people about the problems. I contacted ABC news and i would love to contact a lawyer too. The biggest problem i have is that when i brought our xbox to UPS we did not ask for a reciept. When we called UPS they said it is not there policy to give a receipt. Only if you ask. That store is not showing our tracking number (the one ms is saying is ours) ever being in that store. So now I’m left wondering…did UPS steal my broken xbox or did MS mix up the label sent to me. This whole thing is making me sick inside.

I bought an XBOX 360 when it launched. It worked fine for a while but then I got the “ring of death” (three red lights). I purchased the extended warranty so I sent it in for repair. I got it back three weeks later and it worked fine for a few months and then…the “ring of death” again. I sent it in for a second time after five horrible 1-2 hour phone calls with Max (I hate Max) and the rest of the Special Olympics of customer support staff. They sent me a replacement console (no doubt refurbished). Now that console is not working. When they sent the replacement console to me a letter was in the box stating that my extended warranty would be transferred to my replacement console and that it would be registered for me. I called yesterday to ask MS to send me a UPS box for the 3rd time and guess what. The support people didn’t know anything about my replacement console, and they also told me that it had no warranty. I had to go to Office Max and fax these bumbling idiots my service contract and AS I TYPE this I’m on hold waiting to talk to a supervisor. HEY MS is this how you treat a hardcore XBOX fan? I have 1 XBOX 360 core system, 2 XBOX 360 Pro systems, and an XBOX 360 Elite. I am disappointed that there is no way to talk to “big” Microsoft. Maybe they don’t know how bad their customer support is. Maybe it would be a better experience if I spoke Filipino or Hindi. Apparently only about 1 out of 10 customer service reps speaks English as a 1st language. WTF?! Also when you contact customer support chances are your agent has NEVER seen a 360. I always seem to know more about my console than the customer support. If you are considering getting a 360 look for a Zephyr or Falcon version. Google it if you want to know what I’m talking about.

Oh and while I’m at it. Whoever decided that customers should listen to really REALLY bad pop-techno while on hold should be FIRED!. No verbal counseling, no written warning…FIRED! Morons! This music makes me want to get on a plane and fly out to Redmond Washington so I can throw my broken, replacement piece of crap first gen. XBOX 360 through the front Window of the main office. Personally I think MS owes it to it’s customers to replace all first gen. consoles with Falcon systems.

WOW I am so frustrated!! Today I called for the 5th repair of the XBOX 360 in one year!! I am livid and angry and ready to call a lawyer! They send me a refurbished console that still has issues and refuse to refund my money or send a brand new console, just the same song and dance-they send me a box send it back to them and in a couple weeks they will send me back yet another refurbished model!! UGH! Anyone up for a team lawsuit??

You bet Trish I am ready for a lawsuit. Here is my email address please put in the subject xbox 360 and I will be more than happy to team up and start a lawsuit. I have tried contacting several lawyers but with the holidays they are all on vacation so I am waiting for a call back. Please email and we will get this started. I did finally get ms to send me an overnight box thru fedex and to overnight it. This is the 3rd time I have had to send mine back in and I am very upset. MS learns to treat people better. I went to Walmart to get my son a ps3 for christmas and go figure all they had was xbox 360’s. I told the salesperson they were junk, he asked 3 ring junk or scratching disk junk. I told him 3 ring and he admitted one of the sales people at walmart had to send his back 11 times and still in not right. I will be d**m if I am sending mine back the 4 fourth time let alone 11 without contacting a lawyer.

We purchased 360 long ago when first came out. The red rings appeared approx. 4 months ago. We called MS they sent the empty box, UPS picked up for free and approx. ONE WEEK later a new XBOX arrived FED EX. I applaud MS for the way it handled OUR case. I can’t imagine it not being the standard way for everyones case. OH BY THE WAY I never spoke with MS… my twelve year old son spoke with MS and handled the whole transaction. I thought that was kind of cool.

I would love to know how I could get in on this lawsuit. My xbox 360 has now been in the shop for repair 4 times within 6 months and the last xbox I got back from the repair center was covered in this strang yellow crap that looked like spilled yellow soda encrusted all over my xbox 360 and nothing worked on this unit they sent me . I have been in contact with micro soft and xbox and each side keeps passing the buck and no one can help me or give me an answer. the only thing im told is that the repair center checks every xbox befor it goes out YEAH RIGHT. if anyone knows anything that can be done or can help me write me at vans297@yahoo.com

First Xbox last under a year and the replacement under 90 days. It really is horrible that this many consoloes have gone bad and there is still no recall… ::sigh: If the lawsuit is still going on and someone will send me the information on it I’d gladly join in. Microsoft shame on you because a large number of your clients I suspect are under 18. tsk tsk tsk….

As soon as GTA4 came out, my Xbox fucked up and i do believe that the xbox manufacturers knew this would happen so they could make more $. Conveniently, my two year warranty had just run out so they are refusing to work on it.

Why was this product sold when it wasn’t tested, re-tested and tested again? Answer…. because it was marketed to kids that love gaming. MS saw the potential $$$ for launching a great interactive gaming experience. MS only had one problem…. their system wasn’t tested.
MS told us we tampered with our console thus its not covered under the warranty. We didn’t touch the console.

I recently mailed in my Xbox for repair. It was flashing the three red lights. My system was covered under warranty, but the service department sent it back to me unrepaired. I called XBox customer support and was promised that my console would be repaired, so I sent it back. Here I am again with a console that was not repaired, even after all the promises that was made. How can I become part of the class action law suit? Can someone help me?

my xbox has been sent out for repairs four times for the red lights. this is nonsense and microsoft is not helpful at all. ive never had these issues with any other system. ive spent thousands on this crap and ive had enough. they just keep sending me these refurbished pieces of crap. i just want to play with my buddies but my xbox is always out for repair. what a waste of money. fuck microsoft
