Google Rumor Round-Up

Sometimes it’s what a company’s not doing that grabs the headlines.

Such is the case with Google today as the search engine shoots down two rumors that have been making the rounds of the media.

The first has to do with ads on the Google homepage, with Googlewatchers pointing to this page for Google Belarus as evidence that the company has reversed its longstanding “no ads on the homepage” stance.

However, as Jason Miller of WebProNews points out, this site is not officially endorsed by Google and is likely the product of cybersquatters making unauthorized use of its copyright. John Battelle has more.

Second on Google’s To (Not) Do list is the Google cube, a home internet appliance that comes complete with its own Google-developed operating system and will be sold in Wal-Mart stores.

Not so fast says Google PR head David Krane in this blog post remarking on a Google-branded PC. He writes:

“…we have a number of PC partners who serve their markets exceedingly well and we see no need to enter this market; we would rather partner with great companies.”
