Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out? Google Radio Debuts

Apparently there are a lot of people who still listen to the radio. And Google wants to reach them. Well, it wants its advertisers to reach them, anyway.
Yesterday the search engine announced its intentions to acquire Newport Beach-based dMarc Broadcasting, a “market-leading provider of digital solutions and media services in the radio broadcast industry.” Basically that means they link radio stations with advertisers and automate certain parts of the ad selling process.
The selling price will be around $100 million cash, with $1.1 billion more to come if Google’s performance goals are met.

AdWords customers shouldn’t go rushing to edit their on-air scripts just yet - integration isn’t expected to come for some time.
This is yet another in a series of diversification moves for Google. It’s getting deeper into local markets and maybe trying to live up to all the analyst hype (latest stock price = one million dollars). Let’s just hope this one comes out of the gate stronger than Google Print, lest it burn out and fade away.
