Yahoo Hires Top Computer Scientist

Look out, Vincent Cerf.

Yahoo is adding a new name to its employee roster. He’s a leading Chilean computer scientist and co-author of Modern Informational Retrieval, considered by many the authoritative manual on the subject.

From an article today in Financial Times:

“Ricardo Baeza-Yates will run research centres in Barcelona and Santiago, the company said. As co-author of Modern Information Retrieval, a widely-used textbook on the subject, he is one of only a handful of academic experts in the field around the world, said Prabhakar Raghavan, head of Yahoo Research.”

Some quick Google Yahoo searches uncovered his homepage, which makes it clear that, though certainly a genius in his field, Baeza-Yates bears an uncanny resemblence to this guy and appears to be stuck in this year, (well, web design at least).
