Breaking the Myth of the Bonsai Kitten

Long before you learned what the wonders of PhotoShop could do for small furry housepets, photographic hoaxes were being perpetrated on unsuspecting victims all over the world.
A CNET photo spread titled Pictures that Lie takes a look at some the earliest and oldest hoaxes throughout history, ranging from the funny - this 1934 April Fool’s prank of a flying machine to the more serious - these images showing a Communist Party detractor literally ‘erased’ from the picture.
A new software developed by Dartmouth College professor Hany Farid is being used by everyone from scientists and historians to computer geeks and criminal prosecutors to ferret out and further substantiate any suspicions of fraud.
Here’s how it works:
“Fraud detection software for images essentially searches for photographic anomalies that the human brain ignores or can’t detect. Humans, for instance, ignore lighting irregularities in two-dimensional images. While the direction of light can be re-adjusted in 3D images from video games, it is difficult to harmonize in 2D photographs.”
Although Farid’s software is cutting edge, he’s got his work cut out for him, as fraudsters are continually honing their techniques.

i think that is the sickest thing i have ever seen in my life. whoever is doing this needs to be stopped. Animals are not on this earth to be put in jars and fed through fucking tubes. I am truly disgusted. Whoever has done this..if you are reading this think..how would you feel if somebody did that to you? and you had to live your whole life in a JAR. Thats sick. And I am a strong believer in animal rights.

I never understood how anybody could fall for the “Bonsai Kitten Hoax” and I am sure it wasn’t even intended to be a hoax, just a joke.
Anybody who has ever watched a cat play will know how they love to discover even the smallest space and I am sure the “Bonsai Kitten” creator watched his cat doing just that with a glass jar and took it from there. He must have been gobsmacked by the reactions he got.
Stupidity and selfrighteousness have robbed us of a great website.
