Well, everyone already knows that Valentine’s day was originally consecrated by the Roman Catholic Church to supersede the Lupercalia, an ancient fertility festival, but the really interesting thing…relax, we’re just joshing you. Here’s some heart-day links:

…’Til death at the hands of Dragmoth the Destroyer do you part News.com brings festive tidings of the increasingly blurred line between real life paramours and their counterparts inhabiting online ‘virtual world’ games, such as Star Wars Galaxies and Second Life. Not only has there been a steady uptick in the number of ‘in-game’ weddings - those between characters that are just for fun - but also in flesh and blood nuptials stemming from online courtship. So…what’s an Everquest wedding like? Says Alan Crosby, global director of community relations at Sony Online Entertainment, “Usually, we have them in a nice, scenic area. If they were evil (characters), you would often have them in Neriak, the dark elf city.” Well, that goes without saying.

Is that a pepperoni on your pizza, or are you just etc. etc. Adfreak points out
a delightfully asinine ’study’ (touted by Domino’s) that claims you can tell whether a person would make a good soulmate by examining their choice of pizza toppings. This matchmaking via mozarella offers such helpful tidbits as: “Those who favor multiple meat toppings are most attracted to one another. This poses a problem for those hopeless romantics who prefer single meats - their loves love another.” Ah yes, it’s always the same old story, n’est-ce pas?

“In case you couldn’t tell, I was being sarcastic”
This might help explain your last breakup. Wired cites research suggesting that folks might as well decide whether an email is blithe or serious by flipping a coin - we mistake the actual tone of email half the time. The thing is, we think we’re reading it right 9 times out of 10. So the next time you send your sweetheart an irreverent note that could go either way, remember to add ‘psyche!’

From the Bureau of Almost Unreasonable Cuteness With an assist from Gizmodo, here is a photograph of real puppies riding a fake monorail. And if that doesn’t put love in your heart, we don’t know what will. Happy Valentine’s Day!
