Following up on a previous story about the Sony Ericsson and Google Blogger collaboration, BenQ announced Tuesday its own partnership with Google. They will pre-install Google Local on five new mobile handsets that will be released in April. Check out these new phones here.
Google has been aggressively partnering with cell phone hardware manufacturers. This could be a smart play since a hardware maker will often produce variants of a particular phone to be supplied to both GSM (AT&T/Cinguar, TMobile) and CDMA (Verizon, Sprint) markets. In contrast, Yahoo’s AT&T/Cingular deal is limited to a specific cell phone services provider but can reach across various handsets from different manufacturers.
In a separate story from The Wireless Report, Google Mobile News Beta is now available for use. Simply point your cell phone or PDA to Google Mobile and select the “NEWS” link. The aggregator will pull in a stripped down version of the latest news for quick loading on your mobile screen. I just tested it out on my cell phone and it works great.
