It’s an old theme that’s been around since human communication began - your words coming back to haunt you.
The story gets an updated twist in a BusinessWeek Online article titled You Are What You Post (incidentally, if this is true then I am composed of 80% useless celebrity news, with the remaining 20% boy-crazy girl).
Josh Santangelo is a successful web developer whose name is still associated with illegal drugs when inserted into a Google search, thanks to a 2001 post on a forum site.
From the article:
“Shortly after Santangelo’s late-night overshare, famed blogger Jason Kottke linked to it on his site. That bagged so much traffic that five years later the ‘drug dump’ still ranks No. 7 out of a total 92,600 Google hits that come up when you type in Santangelo’s name.”
Read Santangelo’s reaction to the article here in his LiveJournal (there’s a great line about khakis) and see the drug trip post that started it all.
He’s also got a presence on some site called 43 People. Anyone know what it’s about?
