The Man, The Myth, The Turtleneck: Apple CEO Steve Jobs

Sometimes it’s what you don’t say that makes the biggest impression (listen up, last night’s Oscar winners).

In this case we’re talking about Steve Jobs. He’s getting lots of attention from the press for the product announcements (or rather, the virtual lack thereof) made at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show.

Though the Jobs did unveil the iPod Hi-Fi and an updated Mac Mini, a lot of geeks were left disappointed at the lack of a sun-moon-stars-Christmas-and-Fourth-of-July-all-rolled-into-one product release.

However, a new article in Wired says that disappointing announcements like these are all part of Jobs’ master plan. He keeps it low-key until the time is right and then releases the mother of all devices.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Jobs plays the tech press like his pal Yo Yo plays the cello…Jobs’ cultivated mystique seems a little forced when he has nothing more to talk about than a mini Intel computer, leather iPod cases and the iPod hi-fi boom box…That’s not to say Jobs didn’t say anything last week — in the midst of the drab mentions of accessories and Intel-inside processing power increases were a couple of kernels of genuine interest, mainly revolving around what he chose not to do and say.”

On another Jobs-related note, the CEO’s notoriously understated wardrobe now has its own fan following.

And did you hear about the jogger who was hit by a car and then identified by her iPod as she lay unconscious in a ditch? That’s right folks, these high-tech hipster toys SAVE LIVES.
