We’ve rounded up all the usual suspects: pick out stories about MSN, Google, and Yahoo!

MSN Live Search cooks with Macro-wave The MSN Search Weblog asks, “Ever wanted to create your own search engine?” They’re not trying to drive away business (we don’t think), just plugging their new Search Macros feature. Live Search users can use the tool to essentially create their own vertical SEs, save them for future use and share them with others. By setting up a series of specific parameters (for instance, excluding certain types of sites from a search or preferring particular keywords or phrases) search results can be focussed for a special purpose - MSN’s example is a recipe search.

“It’s rabbit season!” “No, Duck season!!” TorrentSpy is trying to wriggle out of a lawsuit filed against them last month by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) by directing the heat to a much larger target: Google. The MPAA is going after seven companies (including TorrentSpy) that they think help users find or download copyrighted content; in seeking dismissal, TorrentSpy says, “Everything alleged about defendants’ website is true about Google, and even more so, because Google outperforms the allegations in the complaint.” We’re not sure about the legal precedent for the “we stink” argument, but if it holds legal water it’s probably one form of flattery Big G can do without. Read the Macworld story here.

“This question is about Vanilla Sky: what were you thinking, man?” Following last week’s upholstery-hoppin’ visit from Tom Cruise, the Yahoo! Answers Blog announced a related promo yesterday - they invited folks to try stumping the actor on trivia from his own movies. They’ll reveal the best question - our money is on “How long did your appearance in ‘Young Guns’ last?” - in an “upcoming interview.”
