If you’re the kind of online shopper who likes some of eBay’s listings, but doesn’t relish a pitched bidding war against determined, battle-hardened auction enthusiasts, your time has come. Beta News reports that eBay’s instant buying service, eBay Express, has gone live in ‘preview mode.’
What they mean by ‘preview mode’ is actually ‘fully operational mode’ - for U.S. users. They’ll push eBay Express out to worldwide markets following an announcement in early May.
The listings in Express have been collected from the auction site’s ‘buy it now’ items, offered by sellers who have enabled PayPal payments (although we found that you can buy at least a few items just by plugging in your credit card). Customers can collect items from disparate dealers in one shopping cart, Amazon style, and pay them off at all at once.
Keep in mind that you’re still doing business with Joe and Jane eBay user - your transaction with them will just be a bit more insulated than in a run-of-the-mill eBay auction. Because Express is meant to be attractive for being “convenient,” eBay’s trying to keep out the riff raff by vetting its contributors; sellers won’t be listed unless they have 98 percent positive feedback, and a rating of at least 100.
