By now, most people have probably heard about the fuss generated by yesterday’s New York Times, story, you know, the one detailing a Google complaint to the Justice Department about the threat of IE7 to Big G’s search share…anyway, for the time being, we’re pleased to bring you slightly quieter Google news about a European UI test.
Sunday, Google Operating System pointed out that in some cross-pond markets, Google is taking website sub-category links (these appear below certain search results and highlight various areas found within larger sites, like forums or links pages) and spreading them out to make them more noticeable.
Here’s their screenshot of what appears to be a German language results page (mind the “try your search” line near the top, it’s generated by Firefox browsers and unrelated) - you can see that links to Nescio’s articles, links, and other sub-pages are vertically spaced, rather than being bunched up right underneath the result as they usually are.
Search Engine Watch blog has an another shot, this one in French. SEW points out the one possibly unintended consequence is that results below the affected listing are pushed farther down the page.
