Today marks the birthday of music icon Miles Davis. The trumpeter would have been 80 - we know, we know, So What? So chill out and dig these smooth links.
Now, target those coveted 4 am surfers Google will introduce more powerful ad scheduling capabilities for adWords advertisers next month, and Jenn Slegg has the lowdown. Included will be a long-coveted dayparting feature, which lets advertisers stipulate that ads run only during certain times of day, like after lunch, during the morning commute, or just the 2 hours each day when Seinfeld reruns aren’t showing.
What took you guys? The Wall Street Journal says that Dell has inked a 3-year deal with Google to pre-install some of the search engine’s software on its PCs (here’s a story from Forbes, in case you’re locked out of WSJ). Only…Dell’s actually been shipping Google-equipped machines for several months now - we first noticed in January. Foregone conclusion? Reports of “preliminary talks” back in February say that Google could pay Dell a billion dollars over the course of the accord (wonder if they’re backdating it).
But the Third Screen was juuuust right Threadwatch points to another Wall Street Journal article, this one about MSN’s efforts to buy Third Screen Media, a company specializing in serving ads on mobile devices like cell phones. If the deal goes down, MSN would almost certainly use Third Screen’s tech to help pipe its adCenter ads onto wireless gadgets.
Maybe the Swiss are on to something Score one for net neutrality…a little one, anyway. The House Judiciary Committee voted in favor of a bill that would make broadband providers “operate their network in a reasonable and nondiscriminatory manner such that non-affiliated providers of content, services and applications have an equal opportunity to reach consumers.” Hooray? Not so fast…it would have to become law first, and it’s not quite within shouting distance. It’ll likely be offered as an amendment to an existing bill which might see a vote in June; check PaidContent’s rundown.
