Tuesday Search Roundup - Battelle on AdWords, C-Span’s Google Video Deal, More

search roundup tuesday - stragglers.jpg

It’s nearing the end of the day, but we’ve still got a few stragglers to secure, so hold tight to the reins…

Baby steps, baby steps John Battelle, the man who literally wrote the book on search, is making his first formative foray into the world of Google AdWords in order to promote his new Federated Media ad platform. In this new topsy turvy world, he’s the one absorbing a whole lot of advice from his readers. And today he noodled out how to make a word bold in the ad copy…actually, the whole thing’s pretty adorable.

“It’s a hit! Quick, what do we do?” The Stephen Colbert speech from the White House Correspondents Dinner (you know, the one that caused all the fuss last week; we plugged it briefly here) is presenting C-Span with a whole new set of difficulties online, says PaidContent. Deciding to pull the popular video from YouTube and iFilm, C-Span released a statement saying, “It is important for online video providers to understand that C-SPAN-produced programming is protected by copyright in the same way that the video of any other news network is protected.”

Their gun-shyness as regards the whole viral video thing is understandable; this might be the first time someone’s actually wanted to watch a clip from C-Span. They’re not shunning the net altogether, though. In addition to offering the speech free on their own site, C-Span is partnering with Google Video to provide the whole 95-plus minute dinner, excerpts of the most popular segments, and links back to C-Span - where interested parties can order the DVD for just $24.95.

“Turn and face the page (Ch-ch-Changes)” The Windows Live Blog announced a bunch of alterations to the Windows Live interface last week (thanks, SEW). Some highlights: once gargantuan icons “are now a much more reasonable size,” RSS controls are “improved,” and users can now customize the look and theme of each page. In other Windows Live news, Live Messenger (the anointed successor to MSN Messenger) is now fully open to the public - TechCrunch has the details.

Advertising is guaranteed child-safe Not satisfied with the ROI on your latest campaign? Perhaps you’d consider advertising on a human child…no, seriously. For just 10,000 clams (college cash, they’re saying), Baby Jake will sport a “onesie, hat, t-shirt, jacket or even a kids’ tattoo” bearing a logo of your choice for a month. That might seem like a lot of dough, but this kid…this is a pretty cute kid. (Via Micro Persuasion.)
