“Well, Maybe Just a Little Evil” Says Google

Even geeks can have a change of heart.
Several months ago Google.com drew heat for its reputed compliance with the Chinese government’s pro-censorship policies surrounding the launch of Google China.
Now the search engine appears to be taking a step back from its original stance. At a recent conference in Washington, Google co-founder Sergey Brin admitted that the company may have compromised its infamous “do no evil” stance.
From an article appearing today in Times Online:
“Speaking in Washington, Sergey Brin, Google’s billionaire co-founder, said the company, which operates under the motto ‘do no evil’, had adopted ‘a set of rules that we weren’t comfortable with’…Mr Brin said: ‘We felt that perhaps we could compromise our principles but provide ultimately more information for the Chinese and be a more effective service and perhaps make more of a difference.’”
