Is our memory going, or have we heard this shpiel before? ClickZ says that Jeff Taylor, the fellow behind Monster.com, is launching “a social networking site geared toward the baby boomer crowd.” Called Eons.com, the site will help boomers plan their post-retirement years (and help marketers reach that demographic), including - gulp - the “largest obituary database.” And on that note…

Trust in Yahoo? Yahoo! Taiwan could be looking at a steep fine if a new fee they’ve introduced on their auction site is deemed to be an abuse of their monopoly. News.com reports that Y! Taiwan implemented a 3 percent transaction fee only a month after Yahoo!’s top Taiwanese auction rival - eBay - decided to pull out of the market. It’s up to the country’s Fair Trade Commission to decide whether Yahoo!’s being naughty or just trying to “provide better service and more improvement to auction users,” as Yahoo’s Charlene Hung puts it.

Google’s Matt Cutts takes a stab at answering some SEO questions on Google Video, with titles like “qualities of a good site,” “some SEO Myths,” and the eternal question, “Should you Optimize for Search Engines or for Users?” Before wading in, be sure to view Matt’s disclaimer (he ain’t Google, folks. He just works there).

If you can’t win, switch teams Sports Illustrated, long-partnered online with Time Warner’s CNN, is hooking up with crosstown rival Yahoo! to go after ESPN. AdAge says that SI was scorned by Time Warner last year when its AOL property refused a joint proposal to make an ESPN-style portal site. Yahoo! ranks as a major destination for sports fans (particularly during fantasy football season). On tap: a downloadable app and a social network.

From our Awww, Shaddup! Department We like science. Really, we do. But when science starts acting like the know-it-all Uncle at the family reunion who spoils everyone’s burgers with inconvenient slaughterhouse facts, well, that’s where we draw the line. Forbes drearily reports that watermelon, a delicious summer treat when served ice cold, is in fact more nutritious when consumed at tepid, non-refreshing room temperatures. Because, ya see, it has more antioxidants that way. Thanks for Gallaghering our watermelon, science.
