Ah, somebody wake up Samuel Johnson. Surely the father of modern lexicography would be proud to see a day when ‘Google’ would be included in both the Oxford English Dictionary and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary - as a verb. In Webster’s, Google joins other rookies “spyware,” “ringtone” and “bling” (note to people who use “bling” in order to feel cool: you, uh, might want to stop now). Now let’s look up the rest of these links:
From the Department of “Buh??” Here’s a head-scratcher for you, because Lord knows we couldn’t figure it out: why does a Google search for “therapy products” turn up mid-page results pointing to Yahoo!’s mail and web search services? Definitely one for the hand-wringers at Yahoo! to puzzle over (kidding). We tip our cap to SEO Speedwagon’s eagle eye (link and screenshot via Barry Schwartz).
My Interweb, ‘Tis of Thee On July 4, Wikipedia founder Jimmy “Jimbo” Wales sent out a political declaration of his own, a mission statement announcing the launch of Campaigns Wikia, which is “aimed at being a central meeting ground for people on all sides of the political spectrum who think that it is time for politics to become more participatory, and more intelligent.” Good luck with that…hopefully, it’ll do no worse than keep Capitol Hill staffers from making hash of Wikipedia’s main political entries.
Everyone, synchronize watches… USA Today reports that Microsoft will street a portable music player by the end of the year to rival (dun dun dun) the iPod. It’ll be a wireless device that can download tunes over the air, and will integrate with an iTunes-like application. The iPod-killing starts this Christmas (or so they hope).
“If you film it…” Why would a handful of guys drag a massive rubber band ball up the side of a mountain a bunch of times just to send it careening downhill into a derelict car? A: YouTube (from the Table of Malcontents).
